thanks for all the great input guys.

the site is still a work in progress. I got a friend at school helping me. I give him a shirt and he can use me as a resume builder. So we'll see what he can do.

I love the free shirt idea, but i cant swing it yet. I gave out a bunch free to friends at school, work and the same with my partner. The rest need to be sold to recoup some costs.

I think we're targeting the 18-34 age group. The only thing we have going for us is that we are totally different from all the other shirt companies. Our design/statement on the shirt is unique and i have yet to see anything like it. Hence why its copyrighted and all that good stuff.

Im thinking of the ebay thing, where i can setup an auction and have it show up on the front page a few times during the course of the auction. Make a really outrageous title that catches peoples eyes and see what happens. I'll have the merchandise page up soon enough, if you curious what it looks like. I got the pic, just waiting for my friend to make up the site.

First big question is do you want to sell directly to the public or do you want to sell wholesale? Sounds like you're starting up selling direct. Fine. What do the shirts sell for? How much do you spend making them, how much do you want to keep as profit, what do you think you'll spend for marketing and fulfillment? (That's billing, packaging, shipping, etc)

You can make a LOT of money at flea markets. Low overhead, immediate feedback and if you listen carefully you'll get a lot of ideas for new, even more profitable T-shirts. Also anywhere people gather: sports events, music, whatever. Wear it and carry a bunch, like the dudes at Yankee stadium. Learn to run (or lie) if the cops come by.

There's a big march, oops, rally at the UN on Saturday, bet you can sell a bunch.

Now, PR: that's what you want - you really can't afford advertising yet, unless you have a rich relative. Try and get your picture taken by a news group at that rally, and ask how you can get a copy of the picture. Yeah, I know it's supposed to snow, but wear thermal underwear under that T and look for the news/photo dudes. Then, get a copy of that picture, make cheap copies, and take ANOTHER picture that has the T-shirt extremely readable and add a press release, and send it to every local & college paper out there. You need an angle. It can be anything from "local kids start t-shirt business" to "Bush is invading Iraq and all I got was this lousy T-shirt" to "blonds look better in t-shirts" ANYTHING at all, but be sure that your e-mail address is in the opening sentence of the press release.

Somebody out there will print it. Good luck.

You should get to the library and read (memorize) the Guerilla Marketing books.

you're gonna have to give away some shirts for more exposure...

or find a really hot chick that will take off her clothes...call Howard Stern and talk to John or KC....

i really dont think the free shirts will work. all it will do is over expose in my area. Plus i got enough friends who would buy them anyway.

Why are you so concerned with marketing globally when you haven't even made an impression locally? If I were you, I'd try to build up a local reputation first, then expand. It sounds to me like you're trying to overexpand way too quickly. Once you are profitable locally, then try and expand to new markets.

Edit: Damn, that was redundant.
