<< In fact, Martin -- who will appear on the July 6 cover of The Advocate -- said he would have been willing to participate in tomorrow's Gay Pride Parade if his schedule had allowed.

"I don't have a problem but instead I have to go to Miami," he said. "What's the difference between you, me, gay, lesbian? I hate these walls and these boundaries, I think they're so stupid, and judging things and life is so short. Be happy, be who you are, and love."
>>

Damnit I swear I've heard rumours and seen pictures in some underground papers here in Toronto (usually around the university campus) that documented Ricky Martin's attendance at Toronto's Gay Pride Parade last summer. It doesn't make a difference to me but I think there's just something rather humerous about a "gay" singer being marketed to the world by big business as a super sexy straight man. I put gay in quotations because he is but I don't think his management will let the poor guy admit it! Anyways, if he admitted he's gay I'm sure his popularity would sore...women dig gay men.

Anyone who doubts that he's a flaming homosexual is in complete denial. They also usually happen to be women -- go figure.

Uh, as much as you all hate him nothing in that quote that GL just gave us indicated whatsoever that Ricky was gay - merely he was supporting gays. All the power to them in their parades as far as I'm concerned; I'm not gay either. I also support equal rights for minorities and I'm not Black or Asian, etc. :)

Reminds me of a certain Bloodhound Gang song :)

Anyway, isn't there a rule that extremely hot women think they can "fix" gay men?

all the media flamed barbara walters, at least here in houston the radio was saying how she tried to corner him and she ended up looking like some major bit*h, and this was last year, when they ran the rerun.

reminds me of the world series pete rose interview when that guy tried to corner him about the aligations, and rose was like, wtf???

Brooks, man, what's this crap about supporting parades?;)

I think it's BS that people have to garner all kinds of attention for their sexual lifestyle.
It's not about rights or bigotry.
It's sex.

Whatever kinky stuff I do is my business.

I don't need anyone's approval or acceptance.

If some people like to do it with others that have the same equipment as their own, I don't despise them for that, it's their choice. But for hell's sake, they don't need to yell it to me, or demand my approval with parades and shit.

If these nuts would just keep it behind closed doors, where it belongs, then they wouldn't ever have to worry about not getting a job, or not being able to enlist.
If someone came applying for a job told me they love to squirt their stuff into shoes, I wouldn't hire them. But I would never ask if they didn't offer to tell their secrets.
We, society, don't need to know your sexual preferences, or deviancies.
Keep it to yourselves!

I honestly don't believe he is gay, I think he's bi. Judging by some of his video's he swings both ways.

By support I mean I don't really give a damn - and I support total rights like gay marriages and what not. Really its their business, so I don't care - and I also see no reason not to support equal rights for gays, because as you say its all just sex, a private thing that should not affect anybody else :)

Just think how a long steamy skin popsicle would feel going up and down your throat... if you're a girl you might like it but if you're a guy, time to kill yourself.

Maybe he's bi. He's made some comments about wanting to date Madonna, so I wonder why he'd say such a stupid thing if he wasn't straight.

I don't think "Flaming" is the right choice of words here. That is reserved for out of the closet flamboyent (sp?) homosexual men.

And as always this is just MHO

"and I also see no reason not to support equal rights for gays"

what rights don't they have if they keep it to themselves?

I never have had to tell anyone about what kind of sex I had in the past year for any type of application into anything.

Why do people need to make gayness public?

Ok, I'll tell you.........
it's because they are insecure and unloved.
and their stupid parades only foster it

Oh, give me a break, Harrald, he IS flamboyant, but so many people just WANT him to be straight that they refuse to see it. Ask any gay man about him, and they'll tell you that he registers quite strongly on their "gay-dar".

I suppose he could be bi, but I still have my doubts. It's not a big deal either way, but I just find it amusing that so many women are in denial (including one I work with).

SirFshAlot: I've also wondered why it needs to be publicly proclaimed. If some guy wants to blow another, go ahead. I feel no need to broadcast that I like women, and it's usually quite apparent whether or not a man is gay without the necessity for a triangle or a rainbow on their car.

Didn't see him at the parade, but then again it was absolutely humungous. ;) The whole concept of a parade to celebrate sexual orientation seems superfluous, but truth be known, that parade is the most fun of any parade in Canada by far. Glad to see our homophobic mayor participating in the parade now and scores of "traditional" families watching. It's also amusing watching the tourists from Buffalo who come up not expecting to see this parade. The look of amused horror is just priceless.

My favourite is still the quote from a new immigrant from Pakistan who had arrived in Canada with his wife and 2 kids just the day before, interviewed at the parade. All he had to say was "I can see that life in Canada is going to be very different." :p

As for whether Ricky Martin is gay, straight, bi. I say who cares. No matter what, I'll still hate his music... :p

Skoorb,

You're absolutely right...nothing in there said anything but if you read the article, the reporter was definitely trying to stir up some news about his sexuality.

And the fact that the gay pride parade is a mainstream event attended by people from all walks of life - yes even our homophobic mayor who likes to squirt people with super soakers during the parade - doesn't help to establish anything.

Anyway...we'll see if he arrives in Toronto around the same time again this year. That'll be more than a coincidence!

i dont think any of you know the story behind it.

Ricky was on the cover of a gay mag, thats what initiated the whole thing. to be on the cover, especially of a low key mag, i doubt they went out and did anything besides get permission. (the permission part does confused, maybe they dont need it.) the point is, the gay community seeked him, not vice versa.

the barbitch walters things is that she cornered him. basically if he said no or said no comment, he was denying it, if he said yes, well obviously he was screwed.

besides, search the net and look at his stylist he dated and the current gf (not sure if smae one). HOTTIES.

besides, when is it our business...what if one of the members here with some influence was gay, would he not have any say so anymore?? who really cares...its not you...as long as they dont hit on me, hell, they could be really nice people.

plus...i doubt he hid it in the closet that long considering how long he has been in the business always at huge levels. (just he had to sing in english for the states to realize who he was...kind of like selena had to die for anyone besides texas to care...sad).

edit: typos

sirfish & andrewR Its not a matter of staying quiet...gay people do not have equal rights... for instance they cannot marry in most areas and get benefits which are afforded heteros. I don't know why people are opposed to gay marriages; does it really bug them that much that two guys are living together and getting benefits that are afforded heteros? Doesn't bother me in the least! Thats what I'm talking about. Staying quiet will keep a gay person away from some problems but some like marriage are not available to them.

Skoorb: If it were a matter solely regarding the right to marry, then it would be a political issue that can be decided through lobbying, donation, etc. I do NOT see that as the sole reason, or even ONE of the reasons, for marching, demonstrating, etc. It seems more like, "Hey, notice me -- I'm gay!" Well, yeah, so? Do I care? Lobby the legislature, file a lawsuit if you want to marry your "partner". Having these "gay pride" parades, which are not called "gay rights" parades interestingly enough, only serves to incite resentment for sticking one's business into everyone else's faces.
