True love to me, is looking at someone, and being able to see yourself in fifty years with them by your side. Knowing that no matter what happens, and no matter what path you may choose, that person is going to be there to pat you on the back, and hold you up whenever you may stumble. It's having your best friend and your dream lover all rolled into one, so if the day comes when a sexual relationship is no longer feasible between the two of you, there is still something worth clinging too. True love is a gift, that if you are lucky enough to receive, you should fight tooth and nail to make sure you never have to let it go.

I always use the Apostle Pauls definition of love... I don't think anyone can actually have this true a love for anyone else, but it is the standard by which I judge "Love" by...

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

love is a continum, saying what is true love is about as useful as saying what is a true tall person?

there are degrees of love same as there are degrees of tallness

'love' is a certain state of mind/thoughts, caused by hormones and other processes in the brains when a suitable partner (i.e. one that will enable him to produce healthy offspring)has been found. This process isn't without faults, though, so not everyone chooses a suitable partner, but in most cases it is successful.

'true love' is a romantic idea, which comes down to a certain state in which both partners are so 'obsessed' by each other so that they tolerate each other's presence and activities in most situations.

True love is when it hurts to be apart, and when one is willing to sacrifice for the other. True love is growing together and sharing fears, thoughts, hopes, and trust. True love is magic, and the light dancing in each other's eyes. It is the knowledge those eyes share, and pulling together when times are tough. True love is being so wrapped up in each other that the world goes on, unnoticed for a time. It is when the stars sing as two people who love each other gaze upon them.
