Thanks. How is a step backwards graphically, just wondering?

Is it possible to make it more difficult if one is finding it too easy?

Internet video game critics. Ruminate on that for a minute.

I have the game and I've put ... 2 hours into it?
Graphically: I think it's a step backwards.
Difficulty: It has been easier. But I'm still early in the game.
The menu system: Confusing.
Gameplay: More of the same. And that's what I wanted - I wasn't looking for new.

So, while I may sound down on the game, I'm having fun. I'm not a gamer looking for a major challenge - I don't mind an "easy" experience.
I paid the full $25 and feel good about it.

I think technically the graphics are more advanced. It's the art, the look and feel of both towers and aliens that seems a step back.

There are difficulty settings, and a large number of game modes (like a competitive no tower selling mode). On normal, most levels are pretty easy. Crank it up to hard and they're noticeably more difficult. On elite, they can get very difficult. Some levels though (like the last one) aren't so tough, even on elite.

I was in the Kickstarter so I played around with the beta a bit, but not too much. Just now started playing the release. It's, you know, more Defense Grid. Which is great.

Starting on Hard difficulty for now and have been through the first few levels. It's going pretty much exactly as I expected. So I'll probably be playing it a bunch.

Agree that the graphics seem a step back in some ways.. I mean, it does look better technically (obviously since it's several years newer), but the design of the towers seems 'off' a bit, so it can be hard to tell what's going on sometimes. The DG1 towers all looked pretty distinct; sometimes if you have a group of towers in DG2 it seems to me that they all blend together. Maybe I just haven't gotten used to it yet.

All the images on the steam page was close-ups. They didn't really show what the gameplay view would be. I could see all the effects making it harder to see what's going on.

I kickstarted this for $105 because it came with two 6770 cards a couple years ago - they're still shrink wrapped. Haven't tried the game yet.

ok, so i got this yesterday.

for the first 8 levels, i went about my usual way. use basic guns to shape paths, try to build grinders with temporal turrets.

then i realized there has been a massive change to the game mechanics.

there is no more interests on saved resources. and aliens no longer give resource points.

back in DG1 you couldn't beat levels 100% if you spent everything right away - you needed to stash your resources, as much as you could, even letting aliens carry a core most of the way back, in order to save and get that little extra boost which might mean an upgraded temporal just before the next wave.

now, resources come in a bunch at the end of each wave, regardless of how many aliens you killed.

not only it makes it pointless to build traps for specific aliens (so that resources may drop sooner rather than later), but you are given all the resources the next player would get, regardless of your skill.

which means what resources you are given, will be enough to beat the level.

i just beat mission 16 first go, all max speed, using ONLY lev 1 meteor turrets. spam spam spam meteor turrets, as soon as the money comes in.

who cares about turret placement, just occasionally you might need a gun turret with the anti-cloak so that the meteors around the map can target them and nuke them from orbit. besides, the "turret has a hard time hitting enemies close by" means they cant hit *only* enemies right next to them, even being 1 square diagonal is enough. and their accuracy vs fast enemies is ridiculous.

the highest range, highest (by far) damage turrets cost 250, barely more than a cannon, and upgrade to lev 2 for 500. a joke. (and you get these by idk, mission 3?)

gone is the careful balancing of heat and shield penetration, and the timing of aliens targeting. lol. this game is a joke.

you thought SupCom 2 was bad ...

Are you serious? This game is insanely fun and hard.

The only downside to this game is the terrible terrible UI. I wish it had freelook mouse as well in the game menus.

i'm a genius then. i beat 20 missions in about 2 hours, of which 17 have gold rank.

try to start with the resources commander, spam it right away, build meteors only, and if you see cloakers, build a temporal with the base using the anti-cloak.
as i said in my post.
