Defective mobo ?

Hello everyone,

Last week i disassembled my computer to put some termal paste because it was starting to overheat. After i had everything in place, turned the computer on, some things started to behave strangely. The first thing i noticed is that my ps2 keyboard stoped working - almost. Sometimes it works, sometimes it won't, and it works mostly when the pc is running for a while. The weird thing is that other keyboards work flawlessly...maybe some of the pins of the ps2 plug gone bad?

Also, i use a professional sound card, a M-audio delta 1010, which is now making all kinds of pops when i playback audio. It looks as if the system load peeks on a timely basis when any audio is played back, and this makes those popping sounds.

Is it possible that somehow i managed to screw up my motheboard when i took the fan and processor off, causing those behavior, or my windows system has simply gone bad (Causing the sound problem) and the ps2 thing being just a coincidence ?

btw, I've tested the system with other memory, cpu and those things are still happening.

Thanks,
Ivan

unless you had already partially damaged the unit allowing the cpu to get hot, and not likely, it sounds like you have to coincidence's to me.

With the sound, have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

Yeah, reinstalled the drivers, changed slots. It's still stuttering like if the cpu has not enough processing power to handle the music - but it's a 2500 Athlon XP.

Like I said, i tried other CPU and the system remained with such behavior.

Just tested that and the 'stuttering' keeps happening. Should i try a clear install ? I can also try to bring another HD to this computers to boot and see what happens
