Do Deer make a wheezing sound if they are sick?
Late last night i went outside and heard something wheezing sort of a huff & puff kind of wheezing but higher pitch. Hard to explain with words, think of a big ballon exhaling air but also breathing it in. After listening for a bit I heard whatever it was move off and it sounded big but not huge. I frequently see deer walking thru or eating stuff in the wooded hilly area behind my house. Whatever it was sounded like a deer moving thru but the breathing/wheezing sound was really strange.
Just took some trash out and I heard it again and once again it moved off without me seeing what it was. Definitely not a person foot steps.

kind of embarrassed to ask this but now I am really curious to find out what this noise is. Assuming I am awake I’ll head out later tonight and dress better for going up the hill.

**stepped hill for water drainage, lots of underbrush some of it can be thorny**

Not sure if they do in rut, but that's not in-season right now anyway. Maybe injured, but more than likely just something else like a human stalker or dropbear or chupacabra or something.

Seriously I have proper clothing on to investigate. I’ll be heading out in about two hours.

Deer when puzzled about something will blow and stamp their front hooves in order to get a reaction and to warn other deer in the area.

I can’t whistle well. What happens?
I would imagine it would likely just hasten their retreat and departure.

Upon one of them blowing/huffing, it gets the rest of their attentions to their surroundings and puts them on alert. If they hear a whistle or other foreign noise, there's no longer doubt or hesitation, they'll immediately vacate the vicinity.

White tails spook pretty easily in my experience. Their bravado might increase during rut, but they're never going to tolerate being near a human unless they are acclimated to you, such as a group residing near owned land where they get fed by the owner and not hunted, etc (not tame per se, but previously exposed and have some small level of 'trust').

Yeah, they'll snort to alert other deer if the see/sense something off. I just heard one snort after i clicked into this thread before i watched those vids.

Too bad my action pants are in the wash or i might of gone to check it out.

Now another weird sound I did laundry earlier and my action pants were not dry.
Audio isn’t great but turn it up, around 23 second mark is best

kept making that sound over and over. Seemed like it was in a tree but I am not sure the hill is steep.
