I admit it. I own Armageddon on DVD. But I think I've watched it maybe twice in the past what...8 years? It's one of those purchases I regret in some ways. I mean it's a comical thing to watch but its over the top "Only America can save the world so all should bow down to the red, white, and blue" kind of turned me off after the second viewing.

Both movies are "meh" at best. There are better things to watch...like Apollo 13...or the Right Stuff.

1) A lot of Bruckhemier movies have a flag-waving, we are big-nut Americans thing going on (think Pearl Harbor, Top Gun, Bad Boys 2, Blackhawk Down, etc)
2) The Right Stuff is teh pwn!

And of all of those, only BHD is based on fact. He did a good job with that too...probably his best movie.

Third, as much as I love Tea Leoni, she might as well have worn a paper bag cause she had a sad panda look throughout the whole movie.

Tea Leoni has that same "my pad just leaked" look in EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HER MOVIES. She even had it in Bad Boys and Family Man.

True, but she was exceptionally MILFish in Family Man, especially the shower scene.
<Dick Enberg>Oh my!</Dick Enberg>

Yeah, she was pregnant in real life for that movie, so MILFish indeed. She look quite emaciated though in Spanglish.

Yeah, but I was too busy watching Paz Vega. HUBBA HUBBA

She's like Penelope Cruz with a little Salma Hayek mixed in to maker her hotter.

Salma still wins though.

LOL, I was JUST getting ready to post the same thing after seeing some nudie shots of her on Google Image Search.

She's Penelope cute without Salma's squarish looking face :D

Armageddon was an atrocity! Terrible soundtrack, stupid plot, and a sickening lack of acting. Deep Impact was no Oscar award, but at least it was well written, and far more human. If you guys judge movies based on the hotness of the female lead, it's no wonder so many craptastic movies make so much money.

Seriously somebody explain to me how anyone with an IQ over 90 can honestly think Armageddon is at all in any way good?

Action flicks don't require a brain to enjoy.

Actually, you hear Trevor Rabin's score quite often in TV soundbites, etc. I have to disagree with you there.

Yeah I'll let you have that point, I was referring to the AS song. It's all I hear when I think of that movie.

I enjoy a good Krzysztof Kieslowski film as much as the next person, but sometimes I want to give my brain a bit of a rest and enjoy some dumb fun instead.

A fully developed mind is capable of enjoying both Wings of Desire and Zoolander.

Armageddon FTW.

Dude, it was a "tidal wave" They call it a wave for a reason, it washes in and then washes out. The water doesn't stay high for any amount of time.

terrible, terrible films. Armageddon sucked the most. Yet another 'america saves the planet' propoganda movie. And full of BS.... why would they strap a minigun to a fvcking space ship considering the price per kilo of launching stuff into space?
A pile of sh!t.

Same plot? in one it is how the earth deasl with meteor showers and the ramifications of a huge meteor... in Armageddon it is how the earth could prevent a large meteor from striking.

I like Deep Impact better. It has a more epic feel with the various storylines, and some top notch actors like Robert Duvall and Morgan Freeman.

They are more alike than different.

Both feature space shuttles launching to land on the meteor/asteroid to drill down and drop nukes
Both feature at least one rock striking the earth causing widespread panic
Both movies feature massive setbacks that impede the process of the mission
Both movie feature at least one of the major characters sacrificing their lives to blow up the meteor/asteroid via a nuclear blast in order to save all of the earth at the last possible second.

The only real difference is that in Deep Impact they don't succeed. I prefer movies with happy endings myself.

Armageddon...I'm not such a movie snob that I can't enjoy mindless entertainment.

How about the other "doomsday" duos that came out at the same time -

Volcano vs. Dante's Peak.

See now that's a hard one. I actually kind of liked both.

Grr, there's too many people like that which means people like me are stuck thinking "WTFBBQ?!" when the sh1t hits the fan with no pay-off other than the villains having a change of heart and dancing with all the cuddly woodland creatures.

Unless you're talking about the movies that are only available in the "special interest" section :shiftyeyes;
