Its one game, and while the Bears aren't a pushover, they aren't all THAT great, not to mention division games can always go either way. They looked good, sure, but its a long way between now and January.

look...I'm only right once every three years.

Let me have my damn moment.

These days, game 1 is the first chance for all the starters to really compete together. With training camp stripped and injuries in the preseason, a lot of teams develop in those first 4 quarters.

Watching Dallas and the Giants is a perfect example.

You can't bump this thread yet, you have to wait for the season to end for the real comedy gold (it rhymes with Win a Soda Bikings... and, for that matter, the Giants, Bucs, Falcons and Texans, but I think most of those are surprises to most people). But I do have to say, people spent a lot of time giving Deeko shit for picking the Saints to win the division... hmmmmmm...

More like everyone was just looking for another reason to shit on the Jets

Eh, the Jets pretty much laid out all of those reasons during the off-season, which was a daily dose of operatic drama and disaster after disaster.

People were right to expect disaster. Also, no one expected NYG and ATL to be where they are.

Right!

We have a weekly thread for this. The whole point of this thread is so we can call each other morons in February and Bash Deeko for another 6 months.

4. Detroit Lions (4-12) – No one out there thinks signing Reggie Bush and a long washed up kicker is enough to turn around a team, do they? Bush will certainly help, his threat as a screen receiver will keep defenses a bit more honest, but their offensive line already had issues, so they’d better hope its young players can get it together. The Lions will repeat as the most exciting team to not do anything significant.

At 5-3 halfway through the season, they're in position to make the playoffs. The only good teams on their remaining schedule are Green Bay, Chicago, and Baltimore. If they can take care of business against the likes of Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, NY Giants, Minnesota, and Philly and then win one of the Chicago, Baltimore, or Green Bay games they would finish 11-5.

Their defense and offensive line have both held up better than expected. I have reservations about whether or not they can do it in the playoffs, but they've certainly looked pretty solid.

Also, Chicago is decimated. They really shouldn't be a threat to Detroit, going forward. The GB game(s) could be interesting.

They'll probably make a wild card round exit unless they get to play Dallas (whom they seem to have a knack for beating), but at least they will have made the playoffs.

4. Carolina Panthers (6-10) - Ted Ginn, Jr, savior of the Panthers! Probably not. The real question here is Cam Newton – who shoes up? Can he actually be the leader this team needs? He has the skills, but he needs to get his act together. The defense won’t give him much help, either.

OK, I'll pile on. At halfway point, the Panthers have the best defence by yardage, and 2nd best by points. Cam is doing good, still not a leader. Ted Ginn made a few big plays. Now comes the hard part of the schedule . . . :pD:

Well, hey, there were certainly some bad picks in there, but I came one roid-fueled defensive play away from my Superbowl prediction from being accurate!
