Declawing could also lead to problems in the litter box. Declawed cats sometimes avoid the litter box and choose the softer carpet instead since it is painful for them to dig into the litter.

And removing sexual organs has no side affects? I understand that the genital mutilation is practiced in order to completely change a cat's personality. You take away it's pride, you completely subjugate the animal. I don't know about you, but I think i would take losing the last knuckle of my fingers over losing my jewels.

We aren't talking about you genius. We are talking about cats, animals that will breed nonstop until they die if allowed. Every female cat can have multiple litters of kittens with roughly 4-6 kittens per litter. You do the math.

So will every other animal on the planet.

Yeah, and most of them have natural predators to keep the population in check. Cats for the most part have no natural predators since there aren't wild packs of dogs to hunt them down for food. Look at the deer population in this country. We've killed off most of the animals that hunt deer so now we have to control their population by issuing hunting permits to kill off the excess. Otherwise they starve to death or get hit by cars.

What about cars? Cars are pretty good at hunting cats. Seriously though, coyotes, bears, plenty of predatory birds eat kittens and puppies.

Last time I checked, we didn't have many coyotes, bears, or predatory birds like owls, falcons, or eagles in the suburbs and urban areas.

I see enough birds to keep the squirrel population in check.

And what happens when you add another food source? You're going to have too much food, so the population is going to go unchecked, grow exponentially, and result in exactly the deer scenario that was explained to you.

Seriously, just stop trolling.

Coyotes and Bears? If you're not Grizzly fvcking Adams you should really just stfu. 😛 Thousands of stray/unwanted/dangerous animals are put down every year. Ya, those "natural predators" are doing an awesome job cleaning up after you because you didn't fix your pets.

So nature's plan was for people to decide and control cat's what they can do, what parts they can have and who/how often they can reproduce?

I really don't give a sh!t what nature's plan is. We're here, and we decide how it's going down.

That's a pretty tough call IMHO. I'd certainly REALLY miss my fingers... you lose a LOT of dexterity with just losing the distal portion. I suppose you could still write, and grip a lot of objects, but a lot of things would become difficult. Nuts can be replaced with prosthetics and hormone replacement, though my knowledge of the effectiveness of current methods is limited. You wouldn't be able to have kids, but I'm sure there are plenty of kids who wouldn't mind being adopted. 😛

Cats do not favor their fingers as much as humans favors theirs. Humans use their fingers for almost everything. Cats on the other hand, has about as much use for their fingers as you do for your toes. Their claws are not needed as a house cat.

Declawing cats is more akin to cutting off the tip of your toes. You can still walk fine without them.

That said, I think declawing is wrong too. Just trim the claws if you're bothered by them.

Declawing is wrong because it's not easy on a cat...but losing actual organs and having their body chemistry thrown out of wack is ok because having too many cats is not what people want...makes sense to me.

Not if your cat gets out of the house and doesn't come back.

Granted it's STILL not the same, but the point is that sh1t happens, and many people, because they care for the safety of their cat, prefer not to de-claw in case such an event takes place and the animal has to survive on its own for an indefinite period of time.

This cat seems to be doing ok: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1873458&enterthread=y

I also have a declawed calico cat and she kills something at least once a week. We didn't originally plan on making her an outdoor cat but she kept running away everytime someone opened the door. We finally gave up and let her out. Now that she's allowed out she usually just stays by the house. She survives without claws just fine. She usually kills animals by breaking or biting their necks.

Tell us what you really think... really. I guess we should just do everything that's in the universal best interest of an animal which pretty much contributes nothing other than maybe stress relief for their owners. Oh wait, de-balling (i like saying that) is in their best interest, for reasons already stated. Over population, disease, etc. Declawing, however, is not, in almost any case, in the best interest of the animal, but instead, because you don't want the cat fvcking up your sh1tty fake leather upholstery.

My ****** fake leather aside, we're already playing god and denying the most basic life function to an animal, why not just deny it a vinyl sofa too?

..it wasen't nature's plan for humans to domesticate cats or dogs. But now that we're here, management is in order.

By eating those animals, you're denying them their most basic right to live and reproduce. Oh noessss!

Go back under your bridge.
