I do wish there was a way to sterilize and prevent undesirable behavior like spraying without resorting to castration, but for the moment there isn't.

Its not the fact that nobody adopts them, its that there are already too many dogs/cats. If people adopt them there is still a problem of too many dogs/cats, so the only way to solve the problem is to not have them reproduce in the first place.Originally posted by: BigJ
What's worse, neutering/spaying them or putting the kittens down when nobody adopts them?

Declawing means the animal is pretty much fvcked in terms of survival if it gets lost? Whereas de-balling means it can still fvck but won't produce unnecessary offspring that will just wind up dead or in a shelter where they may have to face death anyway (albeit more humanely).

We solved the problem of too many buffalo by shooting them.

Declawing is disgusting. Its basically aa amputation of the first joint of a cat?s toe.
Declawing could also lead to problems in the litter box. Declawed cats sometimes avoid the litter box and choose the softer carpet instead since it is painful for them to dig into the litter.

males "spray" when in heat.

Intact male cats will spray urine to mark territory, even in the house. Females bleed and sometimes spray.

And removing sexual organs has no side affects? I understand that the genital mutilation is practiced in order to completely change a cat's personality. You take away it's pride, you completely subjugate the animal. I don't know about you, but I think i would take losing the last knuckle of my fingers over losing my jewels.
