LOL.....it's a trick that has been done for a few years now. You put your loans against the equity of a house or your put your loans on credit cards.

Doesn't work so easily anymore...I think they go back at least 2 years in all states now on a bankruptcy to see if 'money' was diverted.

Anything that was is automatically excluded.

I believe the OP who says he racked up 200k in debt. I have a relative who I tried (begged) to convince not to get involved with student loans. She wanted to be in nursing but was smoking weed, so I knew she was just a dreamer. She didnt have the dedication to make that kind of commitment because she was more dedicated to just getting high. She was like most women - extremely stubborn. Sure enough she blew $100,000 paying off her car loan, loaning money to friends and relatives who never paid her back, new clothes and so forth. She quit after 3 months, the car was totalled (she didnt have full coverage) and everything else is gone including her fast friends.

Now here she is several years later, owing who knows how much in back interest, late payments, etc, well into the six figures and has been working at Hooters ever since. I told her and warned her and begged her, but damnit she did it anyway.

Weed and student loans = fail :|

pics? ;)

Man and I thought I had it bad with $38K after 4 years in an OK private school with a degree in Biotech. If it was me, I would kiss the U.S. goodbye! Is there another country you can move to OP?

Edit: Checked into this. Turns out a lot of 1st world nations have reciprocal agreements. You're only real hope is to go from 1st world to 3rd world, which depending on the country is not so bad. Southern Brazil, Argentina would honestly be the best places to go for an American (Most similar, European culture). The only small hurdle is citizenship/language :)

And to all those saying he should pay back his debt. Fuck that, I would never want to become a debt slave to some capitalist pig just because of some mistake I made during my youth many years ago. We live in a society where only the strong/immoral goes anywhere. My mother told me a lot time ago, be moral only to the point that it doesn't adversely affect you, eventually you'll be fucked in the ass and taken advantage of for being a saint. I consider an impossible debt adversely affecting you, ignore that travesty move to Argentina/wipe your slate clean and start a new life man.

LOL, another example of the kind of mentality that is ruining our country.

Here is a clue for you. Maybe he should have thought of that before taking and agreeing to pay back $200K in student loans? I mean seriously, what kind of gross financial incompetence would lead to making a decision to take out loans for that much money and not even getting an advanced degree for it?

It likely isn't to some "capitalist pig" either. Those loans are likely owned by the US government and if he doesn't pay them back, guess who gets to? The taxpayer.

I love this kind of logic -- everyone else is bad/immoral, so I should be too!

Maybe one day, you'll loan someone a large sum of money and they won't pay it back. I'd like to hear your tune then.

I hope you're just trolling b/c you sound like an idiot. So, you don't believe in taking responsibility for your OWN decisions? And yes, please leave the country, loser.

I don't think he is advocating avoiding all personal responsibility. But he is saying for him becoming a life time debt slave for one mistake is silly.

One mistake? The OP is 29 and has been taking out student loans for probably 10 years to subsidize his life of not having to work and be responsible.

This 100%. The OP knew what he was doing and knew what the consequences would be, but yet, he kept happily taking money loaned to him.
