BTW, is the sub, DVC or single 4 ohms ??

Ive heard nothing but good things about Alpine amps, and Crutchfield is only in contention for the 501 amp as its not sold locally anymore and its an authorized dealer...

The Sub is a dual voice coil...

Alpine is not a bad amp but for the money, you can definately get better.

For example, I bought a used JBL BP600.1 for $100 shipped.
While you probably won't find it that cheap, Ebay still has it for less than $150...still better than spending over $300 for an AMP.

JBL BP600.1
300w x 1 at 4 ohms
600w x 1 at 2 ohms

Not a big fan of JBL though, my friends JBL amp crapped out on him after 2 months.

Yeah, its always like that with any product.
Once you have bad experience with a certain product you tend not to go back.

A friend of mine has the JBL p180.2 and bp600.1 for over a year before he sold them to me and they are still as good as ever.
From reading various car audio forum, the consensus is that JBL are very good.

Even the best brand will crap out sometimes, its how they handle the support should count.

Is it dual 2, dual 4, or dual 6? Alpine amps are fine, but I wouldn't buy one new, especially at MSRP. You could easily find a much better deal on something used. Hell, you could get a RF 250a2 for around 50 bucks.

It can be any, they make all three versions...

I just looked up the RF, dosent seem all that powerful...

you check the ebay for some PGs? the alpines are ok but like someone else said a bit overpriced at the crutch...

JBL makes good amps. There's a world of user error that can lead to an amp's demise.

Good point too.

Another vote for the JBL BP series, I've got a 1200.1 that is rock solid. You could also go for a JL 250/1, that would drive the 12w3 perfectly.

I would rather pay a little more though and get some form of a warranty, i have bad luck with these kinds of things 😀

That's understandable. Still, I'd get the JL before the Alpine, maybe you can find one local.

i'm pretty confident this amp will push it pretty hard.

it required 1 ga. wiring as it cranks up a lot of juice. i went to competition with this and a L7 12" solo baric and took 2nd with 140 db's.

be careful that you get a capacitor to it has juice when it pumps out lots o' bass.

good luck.

no offense, but that dosent look like its very high quality....

You want quality..Check out these amps:

I've heard very good things about them, but they are too large for the space i have, i want to mount it (and eventually a 4 channel) to my rear seats and those Memphis's are huge 🙂

It's 250w @ 4ohms bridged, which would be plenty for that sub. But it never hurts to have a little headroom. You could try the 500a2 as well, not that I'm trying to push RF stuff. I think the JBL 600.1 or 1200.1 would be a good choice. Personally I've run two 250a2's that I paid less than 50 for each, shipped, a 500a2 that I ran as a sub amp for a while and now use for my front stage, an alpine MRV-F323 5-channel amp that I used bridged to run my front stage before the 500a2, and a JBL bpx2200.1 that I run to my sub. Never had any trouble with any of them.

All the new JBL's seem just as expensive as the Alpine though....

Actually, im a little confused, maybe you guys can help me out...

According to the product page for the JL 12" W3 Prowedge - the 'final impedence' is 4 ohms.

Yet, the specs for the sub thats included show that it's dual 2 ohms...

http://jlaudio.com/subwoofers/pdfs/12W3v2_MAN.pdf

Can anyone explain to me how this works? If its a dual voice coil at dual 2 ohms, the amp will run at 4ohms?

The sub has dual 2 ohm coils, wired in series for a 4 ohm final impedance. The only wiring options on a dual 2 ohm sub are 1 ohm (parallel) and 4 ohms (series).

That sucks, i guess i shouldnt buy the prowedge then as it seems to only come loaded with that version, while if i do it seperately i can get the 4ohm woofer.

Ahhhh, found a visual example of what you were talking about.... http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/learn...rs_wiring.html?subs=1&impedance=DVC2x2

So, either i need to get one of those amps with more wattage at 4ohms, or get the dual 4ohm W3.... Which i dont believe they make in a prowedge...

Called JL, the prowedge is ONLY available in a dual 2ohm configuration, so im at 4ohms no matter what...

Is 175 watts too underpowered?
