Decent scale/bodyfat measurer

I have the Tanita Ironman scales. They are in the $120-$160 for that model. You can pay $300 for the top Tanita, which does segmental measurements.

I just bought a cheap digital scale from Walmart and it's been fine for a while. As for bodyfat%, the most economical *accurate* method would be calipers. I suggest the SlimGuide calipers. I also suggest buying a Myotape. To be honest, I don't even keep track of bodyfat% because it's so hard to get a consistent and accurate reading (I think I just suck at using calipers though). I just end up estimating bodyfat. The only things I regularly keep track of is weight and measurements (waist, hips, etc.) which is where the Myotape comes in handy.

Monthly pictures help too, even more so than the mirror does.

We have a Tanita scale though I don't know how high-end it is (it was a gift).

FWIW, my wife measures at something like 20% on our scale but was measured with calipers the other day and was 14.7%. She's pretty muscular for a woman.
 
using a scale to measure body fat is very inconsistent.
i think a lot of times, mine is using my weight to guess. i can drop a whole 1% bf overnight.
 
That and I believe the scale use your resistance as well which can be effected by many things (electrolyte/fluid balance, body composition...ect ect)
 
Well, as I understand it, these things aren't very accurate, but usually are precise. Which is fine with me. I don't need to know if I have 8% or 15% body fat. I just need to know if it's going up or down, and the rest I can get from my mirror and pictures and how I feel.

It's mostly just to know if a specific workout routine/diet is doing anything or not. I have a hard time getting bigger, but that's likely because I don't eat enough. But I don't eat enough because I'm afraid of getting fat. I also don't do a ton of cardio because I'm afraid of getting skinny. So I want a scale and bf measurements to ACTUALLY see what's going on and take the guesswork and witchcraft out of it.

that's part of the problem.
one day i could be at 13.6%, the next day 11.8%, the day after, 12.4%. it's too dependent on body weight. before you can use the bf feature, you have to enter your height, age and body type, etc.
i'm not saying they're all like this, but mine is a tanita brand, forgot which model but it's supposed to be one of the better ones.
