The hp940 does 1200x2400 only on photo paper, and does 600x600 on normal paper. The X73 does 2400x1200 on any paper, and scans @ 1200x600, and though it claims it copies, you have to have a computer on. For me, the X73 was the better deal, as it was for the thousands who flooded the floors of Best Buy(X73's were gone in around 25 minutes).
Edit: In addition, because of HP's money-grubbing policies regarding 3rd-party ink(they integrate the printer heads into the ink cartridge) their ink cartridges cost about twice as much as Lexmark's.
