It’s pretty common for people dependent on the government for their retirement and health care to claim that they deserve it because they paid in, while never acknowledging that for most of them they are getting far more out than they ever put in.

These same people often complain about other people mooching off the government. What they really mean is only they should mooch off the government.

Sure - Republicans LOVE deficit spending but they (correctly) figured out that it helps the incumbent president. So when the incumbent is a Democrat they lie about how they think deficits and debt are big problems and then as soon as they get into power they go on a spending/debt fueled tax cut spree. The only Republican who undertook even cursory attempts to balance the budget was GHWB and 1) he didn't do much and 2) he's persona non grata in the modern GOP.

If @FelixDeCat wants the debt to explode the surest way to accomplish that is by voting Republican.
 
About that "steady deterioration in governance"... apparently Fitch's Director highlighted the January 6 insurrection when briefing Treasury before the bond rating downgrade.

It's not just that an attempt was made to subvert US democracy. The issue is that, by all accounts, the instigators, perpetrators and apologists for the insurrection will try to see it through again.

The danger is the next election.

The insurrectionists are wielding power in our government, and are ever on the cusp of reclaiming enough of it to do serious harm not just here but throughout the world.

How can an elected politician be an insurrectionist? You need to go back to school.

Other countries like Mexico call their party the Insitutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) to steal the thunder of anyone who would use the same word to oppose them. They were in power 70 years before losing an election. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

This is what’s known as an autocoup. It’s where someone who achieves power through legal means attempts to stay in power through illegal means.

The Constitution mandated that Trump be taken out of power after losing the 2020 election but he attempted to subvert the will of the voters and stay in power in violation of the Constitution. That’s an insurrection.

i sure Felix has a great comeback for Trump’s 7.9 trillion in deficit spending in four years as President but he is obviously just trolling and weakly at that. easier to put him on ignore.
