I see the House GOP have come up with the brilliant idea of appropriating less money than the agreed upon caps in a bid to extract more cuts. Senate is totally going to bulldoze these guys, make their own deal, and force them to swallow it.

The budget negotiations are going to be quite entertaining this year.

Democrats have to start having the balls to call the Republicans liars trying to hurt the elderly and poor and middle class. Liars. Liars. Say it with pride.
That'll just amp up the animosity, IMHO. I like Joe's approach we he rarely does that - and look what he's accomplished!

I agree, actions speak louder than words, most of the time. But that seems less and less prevalent in the Information Age, easily drowned out by information bubbles reinforcing disinformation

Social media, in particular, seems to be the greatest threat to democracy (well, and FOX in the US). People used to just share stuff with their friends and family - now it gets blasted out to 10s of millions.

Bob Good claimed the American people would not be adversely affected by a temporary government shutdown because, "most of what we do up here is bad anyway."

A brief glimmer of honesty...

Most of what we do up here is bad anyway. Most of what we do up here hurts the American people, when we do stuff to the American people while promising to do things for the American people.

Play stupid games...

"In Fitch's view, there has been a steady deterioration in standards of governance over the last 20 years, including on fiscal and debt matters, notwithstanding the June bipartisan agreement to suspend the debt limit until January 2025," the ratings agency said.

"The repeated debt-limit political standoffs and last-minute resolutions have eroded confidence in fiscal management," Fitch said.

Thank you, Republicans, and your shit-for-brains voters.

I love how this was the result of a bunch of fancy analysts.

No shit - if you repeatedly use default as a political tool sooner or later someone will miscalculate.

And Democrats should be speaking about this every day and at every opportunity aaaaannnnnnddddd…..
They won’t
So easy to explain, handful of radicals are pushing borrowing rates higher with means more taxes. So simple to do, call out the specific Representatives that have done so and reliably do so it’s on the record, they sent out social media and emails about doing so.

You underestimate how dumb Americans are. :p It's not very complex, but Average Joe isn't going to understand sovereign credit rating and bond borrowing costs. We're so polarized now that virtually the entirety of GOP voters believes the U.S. economy is in the tank already.

The GOP has governed against the common good of the middle class for at least the past 4 decades, and have yet to pay a political price for it.

Because of a sophisticated right wing propaganda machine that has been going on since the repeal of the fairness doctrine. The fascist right completely took over the radio airwaves, they run cable news, and they control a huge part of local TV news too now via Sinclair.

Heres a crazy idea - lets pay our bills and stop borrowing money to do it. Better yet, lets cut spending.

And to think, this guy voted for trump twice, who wants to tell him?
Yes, lets keep doing what we are doing, because paying for bills with borrowed money is what got us into this mess to begin with.

Did I mention that the prime rate is at a 22 year high, currently 8.50%?

The last time rates were that high:

We are paying interest on all this debt and its getting worse. Time to pay the piper, homeboy.

What's your point exactly? In the past the prime rate has been even higher, spiking up to ~20% in 1980

I realize that. I was there! My parents had a 13% mortgage in 1980.

My point is that the money we owe comes with a cost and the cost is higher than it has been in over 20 years. We need to to stop borrowing money.

I think it’s pretty funny that @FelixDeCat claims to be a fiscal hawk of some kind but then voted for republicans who historically just borrow and spend like sailors on leave

You’re going to be so mad when you learn what the Republican Party that you continually vote for has been doing for your entire life.

stop voting for republicans.

It's really that simple. You are the reason we are in this mess. Stop being a little shit.
