I fully agree with full riding gear if you're gonna be careless enough to ride on the street in the first place. Ever wonder why some motogp riders have no problem racing crotch rockets at nearly 200mph yet won't even ride on the street because it's too dangerous?

I think we all get that you're frightened of motorcycles, and that's fine. But I think your fear is clouding the point the other fellows are trying to make, full gear does a good job of preventing road rash.

good for you. most people are stupid with money. it's cheap compared to the medical bills. and it's cheap compared to the price of a $10,000 motorcycle. you can outfit yourself just fine with 500-600 worth of gear.

All my gear came to around $1,200 but it was worth every penny. OP 55-65MPH in shorts😵 I don't drive 25MPH in shorts.... bet you never will again, if you ever get back on a bike.

Good thing for the new guys to see though so thanks for posting about it... get well soon!

Sweet Baby Jesus, you're a fucking idiot.

Edit: Let me clarify. I'm glad you and your wife are alive, and I wish no harm upon either of you. But it really sounds like this wasn't a near death experience.

Motorcycles are just way too dangerous. I understand that people enjoy it... but the risks.. well, they are too high for me...

why does everything have to be litigated? if you wreck on a bike, i am of the opinion that it is 75% rider fault/25% anyone/anything else. why? because you need to ride for conditions and ride preventively (sp?).

I don't think that *everything* has to be litigated, but it's possible that this could be a situation that would be. For example - my driveway is on a curve in the road. I have a gravel driveway. This spring, I'll get a couple new loads of gravel to recover (and widen my driveway.) If I drag a bunch of that gravel out into the road during the process of spreading it with the tractor, and I don't clean it up, then it becomes an unexpected hazard to anyone driving around that bend. I'd probably deserve to be sued if it caused someone an injury. If you're on paved roads that are free of gravel, and some construction company accidentally dumped a bunch of gravel just on a bend in the road - they're creating a hazard that shouldn't be there.

Fear of motorcycles? lol. Give me a crotch rocket and a Saturday at the track and you would see a ear to ear grin from the time I drive to the track in the morning till the trackday ends that day.
Hell drop me off at the local offroad trails with a bike and same story.
I've ridden motorcycles my whole life.
Riding on the street is friggin boring. Not only that it doesn't make it anymore enjoyable dodging the idiots that don't give a flip if you are shoveled up off the street because of their carelessness.

Wow that's a crazy story! I hope you and your wife make a complete recovery and are able to take that ride with your cousin 🙂

He is not coming over from the west coast (Ft Meyers area) with his bike now.

My bike is being held hostage by the State of Florida and Tri-County towing in Ft Pierce. They wanted $690 for the tow to the impound, plus $40 a day for storage. They won't release the bike.

Plus I had put the Sunpass we just got for the Van on the bike to go back to Orlando at the suggestion of the Florida Highway Dispatcher.

Apparently the towing company drove up and down the Turnpike all night with my bike on it and rang up over $75 in tolls.

dude, i'm so sorry to hear this. the whole story sucks 🙁

i can't believe the cop came and gave you a ticket... what a douche.

most importantly, i'm very glad you and your wife are ok. i know we all only know each other through this computer monitor as people we sometimes agree with and sometimes disagree with... we don't really know each other and what goes on in our daily lives... we don't know who each other is on the other end... but i know that if i found out you'd died, i'd feel sad about it. i hope you and your wife have a speedy recovery without complications. the next few weeks are gonna be rough, but hang in there.

you two can go out and get matching tattoos over where you had broken ribs that says something symbolic about that night. my friend got in a motorcycle wreck and was almost paralyzed... broke t5. they said he wouldn't walk again, but he did. he got a tattoo on the level of t5 that says "miracle".

debi has 5 tatoos and I don't have any.

I like the idea of each of us getting our ribs tatooed.

Her right ribs and my left ribs and put the word to on one gether on the other and when we stand side by side see the full word.

Get well soon dude. And remember all of the times that you were almost in an accident in your car and think about how it would have ended if you were on a bike. Then meditate on who is actually allowed to get a driver's license (yes my 102 yr old neighbor had one until age 99 before they took it away at 100) and think about why the hell you would want to be on a bike on the same road as them.

Is there some reason you feel the need to attempt to totally derail this thread in side conversations?

Perhaps you could simply wish Dave well and move on, without the unrelated, uncalled for, and fairly insulting posts that you insist on making. Why don't you try turning this political next? You're only one step away.

Good luck Dave. As much as I dislike all your fake stories, I hope you and your wife recover quickly.

no one is forcing you to read his posts

Sucks you had to go through all that. Hope you guys recover soon.

I promised myself when I get my bike later this year that I will never carry a passenger on my bike, no matter how cool it'll look having a girl giving me the reach around, it's not worth the life. If I'm gonna crash and die, I want to be the only person affected, physically.

Well, if anything, you've convinced me to always wear a full face helmet. Hope you guys heal up quickly.
