debi and I almost died Sept 25th 2012
As I type this can hardly breathe or talk and cannot move.
I will add more to as I am able to.
It started off as my vacation and dual 50th birthday celebration for my cousin and I.
His birthday is Sept 28th while mine is Dec 21st.
We normally go down to Florida at Christmas time but my job said no one can take time off in the 4th quarter this year.
My cousin Jimmy had asked what I wanted for my birthday and I said simply to ride my Motorcycle alongside my cousin as he has a Harley.
We planned on taking the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee but the weekend before the trip it died in the middle of a street in town without a place to pull off to the side. An Elgin cop came along pretty quick and stopped people from nearly running into the back of us.
Had it towed to the local shop on our side of the Fox River only a couple of miles away. It cost $90
On Monday one day before the trip the mechanic changed the fuel filter. When we picked it up it died less than a mile from the shop.
We decided to mess with it when we got back from the trip and now going to use my old 1998 Caravan with 169,000 miles on it.
We made it to Orlando and stayed the night.
On Tuesday we started off bright and early and stopped and got a Sunpass for the van.
We got 5 miles from the Canoe Creek service palza on the Turnpike and the engine blew up. Antifreeze all over the place under the hood.
We called Florida Highway Patrol and she also got Tri-County towing on the line.
They said they had to charge double for the motorcycle trailer and the bike on it.
They said it would cost $1600 just to tow it back to Orlando 20 miles.
The Florida trooper asked if the bike ran and I said of course. She said I should just take the Sunpass and go back to Orlando and get a rental.
We got 5 miles down the road and I wiped out on gravel.
debi landed on me and knocked the air out of me and she then laned on her right side.
My left side was all scraped up from my head to toes.
I had shorts on.
Many people stopped to assist. The bike was on debi and still running. One of the guys turned it off.
I could not breathe and bleeding profusely into the helmet from the deep gashes in my face and mouth. My mouth was full of gravel. I was choking on the blood and gravel.
A nurse stopped and she cleared my mouth and throat and I started breathing again.
It took a few minutes before I could say anything.
Two ambulances arrived along with about 5 trooper cars.
debi got cat scanned first and has three broken ribs on her right side down by her stomach as the right collarbone broken
I have three broken ribs as well but on my left side and up by my arm pit.
I can't talk above a whisper and can't move my torso.
A Trooper came to the Hospital later to give me a ticket for failure to maintain lane control. I didn't look at the ticket yet to see how much etc.
There is a lot going on to say the least.
The state of Florida has towed and impounded my bike and racking up impound fees daily.
The Van we found someone in Fort Lauderdale that towed it for $600.
debi has been able to sleep a lot and seems to be healing well.
