And decided to do it anyway.
Is this forum dying? It seems slow(er) and boring as of late. I think the promise of a move to better forum software and then it just not happening is part of the reason.
What can we do to increase activity here?
Have girls of anandtech post pics of themselves in every thread. Topless. Bottomless. In lingerie. Whatever people want to see![]()

Gotta think about what it is that draws people to this site in the first place. I found Anandtech forever ago because I was looking for information about selecting parts for a computer and putting them together. It was a couple years after that that I happened across the forums and joined, but for a while my only reason for coming here was to read every article as it came out.
I think my situation is probably more or less typical of every new forum member. The main site must not be holding people's attention long enough to allow them to happen upon the forums, or perhaps there are now so many computer information sites that Anandtech is getting lost in the search engine shuffle more often than not.
The main focus of the site is computer hardware and related information. That's what draws people to the site, and a certain percentage of those people find the forums. Something is going wrong with steps one and two, but it's hard to tell what it is.
Thats probably my fault.Originally posted by: NuclearNed
The forums are hostile and nasty nowadays. There's always been an element of that here, but it used to be more in fun than it is now. It seems like most of the current breed of posters exist simply to criticize/cut down/make fun of everyone else.

The problem with AT is that they listen to the members. You don't bend to what the members want, you build a forum and members come to it. Or not, that is the trick. Most people are too stupid/ignorant to have a clue what will or won't work. Everyone thinks they are an expert and has an opinion but in the practical application, they have no clue.
It's always the same thing:
A whines about X. Nobody else says shit about X. X is implemented because A whined about it and B is up in arms because X sucks.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease and we get the shaft. You have worthless members like pontifex who add no redeeming value to the forums and in fact detract from it. But because he whined like a little girl, Derek bent over and took it.
people because they couldn't or didn't fit in. Hell, it gave this place an edge and we old timers reveled in it. We all laughed and cackled when some fool got the smack down.
Who cares if a few people didn't like it. They weren't running nothing but their mouth. But they got listened to and have run the forums into the ground.
I resigned as a Mod because Anand treated us like shit and I didn't agree with the direction we were going. I felt I was part of something that was big and that I loved. I didn't want to be part of it's demise.
Now I just fill my role as the crotchety old guy who yells "get off my lawn". The people

My $.02
Actually, when the forums were like this, they were big. Now that they have gone the other way, not so much.Originally posted by: SuperSix
Attitudes like this are why the forums lose members. You really have no clue, sadly.

"Derek bent over and took it". I believe that's a mod callout - but of course, you won't be banned.
**EDIT**
After re-reading oldsmoboat's post, I retract my ignorant statements above, (Left for prosperity), and applaud his honesty and guts.
I humbly apologize. I still think he's a grumpy bastard - but that seems to be the path I am on as well.

This thread wouldn't be complete without mentioning all the cool people that were banned/driven out by a certain clique of bad moderators that use this forum as there own playground.

Over aggressive moderation, horrible forum software - promises of migration coming and gong, more competition, etc.
