DING DING!!

We need to have LR and TG amalgamated back into OT. P&N can stay.

The admins of AT wrongly thought this forum was going to grow so much that there would be a requirement for all these ridiculous sub forums.

Also, the new forum looks shit!

An interesting 5 pages worth of reading...

I will agree that the splitting up of OT and the formation of P&N and L&R was a good idea because of the potentially sensitive info in L&R and the outright flaming in P&N; garage and H&F should have stayed however.

Getting rid of the funny trolls and sticking us with the shitty ones outright sucks and I can't for the life of me see why the mods let some of them stick around. They exist solely to suck the life out of threads or post worthless peices of shit over and over again. FBB shouldn't even be allowed to look at the L&R forums.

We need to extend an olive branch to the old trolls and have them come back and "out-troll" the shitty trolls.

I've stuck around because of the interesting topics that come up and the large amounts of advice I continue to recieve in all the hardware forums.

Now a few questions since the large majority of ATOT is focused here...
1. Does Anand himself ever post here?
2. Why is it called AnandTech?
3. Maybe if we bought an airplane and a treadmill and actually proved it ourselves we would see an increase in posting.

You guys act like its impossible to visit the sub forums and post in them.

I know it seems ridiculous, but I've seen on other forums how their sub-forums can really flounder, even though it doesn't take any tangible effort to go into them.

Free pie is certainly cheaper to provide than free IPOD's. Just as long as it's a real pie and not boston cream pie which is actually more like a cake.

 but this is the problem of ATOT - everyone is trying for witty one-liners. maybe its the shorter attention spans we have these days?

Says the douche that names himself Barack Obama that has a one liner as his sig.

tl;dr Shuddup dingleberry.

ban all the jerks who flame,troll..etc and it would be more inviting. Too many here who want to dissect and analyse a simple post and turn it around against you. I cant even get a direct answer to a direct question without someone asking questions or making comments that have nothing to do with the explicit and specific question. If i asked why the sky is blue, dont ask why i'm looking at the sky, comment on storm clouds or call me a noob....just answer it for crying out loud. Otherwise, whats the point? i can talk to my g/f and get responses like that.
admins/mods allowed too many childeren to act like childeren and others move on elsewhere. i'm not far behind to be honest, plenty of forums out there.

It started dying right after the new admin came on. His heart is in the right place but he lacks the experience.

It's because of all the subforums that's diluting the population + all the bans being tossed out for posting pictures. No one enjoys posting in nazi germany

I agree with a lot of the posts that say Derek/Higher admins are part of the problem. AFAIK Derek is an editor for the Anandtech site; putting someone like that in charge of a popular forum is a recipe for disaster. He simply doesn't have the experience necessary to make/keep the forum successful (No updates, changing what was already working, etc), especially with all the changes he implemented. They should have hired someone in know of how forums work.

I mean seriously, voting for every single mod? That's possibly the worst idea ever, it just ends up being a huge popularity contest; mods should be upstanding citizens of the forum hand picked by the other mods who consistently see their contributions. I doubt you will ever find another forum on the internet that's literally "vote and whoever wins gets mod privileges", with pseudo campaigns and all, ridiculous (In either case, I do respect a lot of the mods here, and think a lot of them do a great job, of course I do think the opposite as well IE "Mods can post as regular members and therefore be piece of shit human beings if they so chose" Mods should be upstanding in their "normal" posting form as well is what I'm trying to say).

I think when the owner of the site doesn't even bother posting in these forums that tells you something right there.

But I digress. I also miss how the Off Topic and Hot Deals forums used to be. They were great. I think part of the reason why the site/forums are getting less traffic is because people have more options for their online socializing now, people's taste have changed over the years, and some of the over-moderating of the forums has made it a less fun environment.

And, like someone else said, a lot of people just seem to want to troll and criticize others instead of actually helping them with their questions, which drives people away.

Threads of "substance" die. I've tried a few times, they last <20 posts and fade away to Archiving.

Historically the first trolls were just posters fed up with stupid newbies asking questions that are answered in obvious FAQs and other sources..

That's part of what burned me out. When you answer the same question a hundred times it gets old.

It all started with the creation of the P&N forum, where you are labeled immediately as Dem or Rep, and then are slammed on in any single other forum you post if the others see it...

Politics is the downfall of everything, and it only proved itself on this forum.
