Always compress it and email it to yourself.
You are guaranteed to have access to it anywhere, anytime.

another odd note: usually I store all my excel sheets on Gmail...I went to look for the email today and didn't see them....so I Looked in my sent file log..it's not even there...I'm really getting frustrated

So I have a budget I"ve been tweaking for over a year. I have a backup of the file. Today I made some changes, and was copying the new file over the old file. For some reason it erased both copies of the file though. Thank you very much windows. Oh and the backup disk I had is showing up as blank for no apparent reason either. Thank You. Why me

1) Don't be so anal.

2) Always have two copies of a file, don't save over the old one.

3) Computers can't do anything unless they're told to.

4) Backup disks should be verified right after the backup is performed.

5) I like lists and numbers.

score! found a copy from 5 days ago on Gmail in with some files from work....i apparently accidentally attached it to the email of files that I put on Gmail as backups....

LOL....

I'm starting to think this system just needs to be formatting.

Needs to be formatting what? =/

Anyway...your problem is either hardware related, or it's the screw loose behind the keyboard. It's possible a memory error could cause this problem...but you should have hard-copy backups on CD/DVD.

Write a song about it.

Instead of "Dear Penis" it could start with "Dear Windows".

Of course the second part has to be your computer writing back to YOU.

I don't partition. No reason to. However, I do have multiple hard drives. I have 2 RAID 0 sets, one backup drive and two external backup/storage drives. For my absolute critical stuff I have it on my C: RAID for fast access, my internal backup drive and my external backup drive.

There is a reason to partition. MY windows partition is fine to lose. I can reinstlal a billion times because all I lose is critical apps. All my outlook mail, documents are on a second partition. My entire laptop occupies a partition on my second drive's last partition.

Seagate 7200.8
16gb = Windows 32-bit
16gb = XP 64-bit
100gb = Junk/games/apps
100gb = Media/more junk/legacy

Hitachi 7K250
16gb = Windows backup
69gb = download directory, raw unprocessed files, some backup of mission critical data, continuation of media
69gb = copy of laptop, backup of legacy stuff

I have 2 copies of my MP3s and two copies of my photos on 2 separate machines and 2 copies of my webpages and documents. Mirrored on laptop and desktop so I can go wherever I want and be up to date.

Windows crashed on me last week. I booted into D: (XP 64-bit) backed up the few AIM logs I had and a few documents that I was done with but nevertheless I wanted to save them. Reformatted C: and reinstalled XP 32-bit. I was up and running again in 2 hrs.

2 years ago my DeathStar crashed and a partition disappeared. I booted from my secondary drive which also has Windows and I was backing up and recovering all I could soon enough.

Always a good idea to have a second instlalation of windows, especially on a secondary drive.

My dentist discovered last year that his office assistant had been making backups not of his accounting records, but of the shortcut to the accounting records. Unfortunately, he made this discovery when he really needed the backups. Ouch...
