I received a report about GetJar as possibly being a pirate website and I looked at the site, and it looked fake to me.

It appears, however, that I was a little overzealous in my anti-piracy moderation.

GetJar is legitimate - at least everything that I read up later seems to indicate that it's legit. So I apologize for nuking all of the threads and if you received a message from me, you'll receive an apology.

Getjar is legit, but they do have a clunky website and no apparent way to update apps. Also, unlike free apps on the Amazon appstore, I don't think that you "own" the app that you download for free, so there's no guarantee that you will get updates if it is pulled from the "gold" section of getjar.

As of now, tapatalk is free through getjar and it appears to be the full version.

Its a good app for phones, but for tablets I prefer just using the websites.

Eh? never found a need for it, the browser in my phone and tablet handle AT and the various other forums I visit just fine, so not seeing the point of a separate app just for forum browsing.

Tapatalk is faster, easier to browse, and supports B/W night mode so if you have AMOLED screen phone, you can save battery life by setting the background to black and only text as white.

How come it's free from getjar but you have to pay for it in android market? Is it the exact same version?

Not the same version, technically. Similar to how apps downloaded w/ the Amazon market can't be updated with the Android Market, it's the same with GetJar. It's at the discretion of the developer what version they upload on what markets. They're treated separately even though they're the same app.

I think GetJar gets some of it's funding through advertisements which they give to the developers to allow the apps to be free.

Not sure though.

did I miss something or is there a way to sync read/unread stuff between tapatalk and actually browsing the forums?

I didn't do anything special and mine syncs up. When I'm at work on my PC then jump in the car tapatalk takes me to the last post I read on the full site.
