I just got my Shuffle from FedEx this morning.
Was very angry when I found out I HAVE to use syncronizing software with it.
Unlike most of the other players that let you drag and drop music with the file-manager.

Am not a big iTunes fan. Its nice to know some like minded folks have been working this issue already. If I can use it with WMP 10 I'll be more than satisfied.

Other than Big Brother Syndrome is there some reason they couldnt just let the user copy files to it directly? I tried that with some MP3's and they wouldnt play.

I can't believe you did not know it required it.

There are tons of alternatives.

iTunes sucks because it doesnt support the "F3" function like WMP10 does.. nor does it automatically monitor folders and dynamically add/remove.

Winamp lost my interest years ago with the release of WA3.0 and I never went back.
The best all around player these days is WMP10.. auto codec downloads whenever you might need one.. and using F3 and auto folder monitoring is where its at.

I use itunes only to transfer files to my ipod. Otherwise its a steaming pile of crap.
Dont EVER click 'organize my files' unless you have all your tags correct on your mp3s. And if you have that all correct, you prob wont need Steve Jobs to manage your files.. lol.

I might try out some of the alternatives listed here.. might erase itunes forever its such a piece of ******.
Bill Gates owned that pile. Shame Apple was the one to come up with the Ipod because itunes almost ruins it.
Hopefully someone will release a WMP10 Ipod plugin someday.

I'm using iTunes with about 7000 songs and I've never had a problem with it.

What is that "F3" function of WMP10? I would never ever use WMP, now THAT'S a steaming pile of p**p.

Do you autosync?

autosync? When I hook up my iPod, it gets automagically synced with iTunes.

So you keep all 7000 songs on your computer and on your iPod?

Well no, only the playlists I have selected. But if I would want to, I could keep my iPod and my iTunes library in-sync.

Well, this is my main beef with iTunes. It should allow me to sync up based on any song that I have currently listed in iTunes regardless of whether or not the file still exists on my PC. Instead, if it can no longer find the file it just assumes I want it deleted off of my iPod.

Apple really needs to code in more flexibility. Give the users a much broader choice in just what they want to sync and then they won't have a shoddy product that I hardly use. Hell, if the product didn't suck then maybe I would actually buy from their store. 😛

Ah ok, I know what you mean. What would be the reason to have a MP3 on your iPod but not on your computer? (just wondering)

Storage space. Why would I want to convert one of my cds over with the specific intention of putting it on my iPod and have to keep an additional ripped copy of the CD on my computer hard drive if I want to use autosync? I can hook my iPod up to the computer and play songs from the iPod just as well as from the computer HD.

I also abhor iTunes. I gave away my iPod shuffle to my sister just because i couldn't stand using iTunes.

I don't understand why they can't just do a simple drag / drop to add or remove files from the player, that would make my life 500x easier-- open up the player's drive, then open my mp3 folder which i have shortcutted on my taskbar, then just drag and drop files instead of having to go through iTunes.

Flexibility is for people who don't want to do it the Apple way; the right way. What's so great about them is they've figured it out for you (if you disagree you're stupid and wrong).

what sucks about the itunes is that it constantly cant detect my song files even thought it wasnt moved or changed.... anybody know the problem to this??? and i have to go through the process of looking up my file everytime
