DEAR GOD! Give me an iTunes Alternative!

The ipod is a modern marvel.

iTunes is the biggest piece of s**t that I've EVER installed on my computer....that is, after I got it to install, which took several hours....and then after I got it to recognize my $400 ipod, which was another hour.

I've always loved wmp and I will continue to use it for 99% of my stuff, but the ipod won't work with it (someone PLEASE correct me on this). It can monitor folders, add songs dynamically to my library and remove them dynamically. iTunes can't. This program makes my blood boil, it simply cannot do anything right, and it pisses me off that Stevie makes me use such a piece of crap. Remind me to speed up if I see him crossing the road. Programs like this make me 100% certain that I will never buy an apple....with crap like this, who would? If I was him, I would want to put out quality programs for the PC so that PC users would say, "Hey, this is running nicely and intuitively...I think I'll go apple!" Instead, he give us a steaming pile of itunes.

mkay, now that that's over with. Can anyone recommend me a good alternative to iTunes that would support both video and audio? It would be an added bonus if it would convert the videos I wanted to transfer to ipod compatable before it transfers them.

Thanks.

Most of the major players have plugins which allow you to access an ipod. Or you can use a separate program to do it, like ephpod.

Everyone's got their preference, but I've never understood why people actually like WMP(Windows Media Player). If you meant WinAmp, that I can understand. 😉

I wish VLC had a better interface for music. I want to use VLC for everything! It leaves such a low memory footprint.

1. Itunes isnt crap, it works great for me, easy interface and it makes more sence than WMP (which i still use anyways)

2. WMP will sync with an ipod i believe. I have WMP 10 and it keeps asking if i want to sync my playlists with my ipod whenever i connect it.

My suggestion- Give Itunes another chance, its a good media player, really easy to work with. No idea why it took you hours to install it as you dont mention any errors or anything.

Sounds like PIBKAC.

just be sure to hit the "browse" eyeball icon in the top right of your itunes screen if you haven't. my boss hated itunes till i pointed that out lol

I hate iTunes as well mainly because it's sync function is not intuitive. I basically have to do everything manually because everytime I tried to autosync it would delete my videos even though I had 'do not update videos' checked. Now, 'Do Not Update Videos' could mean something else entirely in Apple speak. An example would be 'Delete All Videos'. I don't know Apple speak though.

If it took you that long to setup iTunes, then it sounds like you're the one with issues. I'm not a fan on iTunes at all, but it is by far one of the easiest programs to install and configure.

What gets me about iTunes is the inability to generate random lists that update themselves; am I missing something? I would love to be able to do this, as my iPod nano of course can't hold my entire music collection.

I purchased Anapod explicitly for this reason, but it only works with songs already on the ipod! What a waste of $30 🙁

Personally, I've never had a single complaint with iTunes. It has extremely powerful archiving and organization capabilities, a nifty little toolbar control panel, does everything I need it to do and then some. I can't stand Windows Media Player.
