Dear Designer of SATA connectors

Fuck you too! :|

I hope you design your own House!!

Every bloody time I Upgrade something, my 1 SATA HD becomes unplugged! It doesn't matter how careful I be, the damned Cables unplug if I even breath on them. :|:|

You do know that there are ones with metal clips on them right??? What's with ATOT rants lately??? Not one has been good.

ive never had a problem with them, and im pretty incompetent when it comes to hardware and getting things done right.

Funny this never happens to me. In fact it takes a bit of work to disconnect the SATA cable from the HD and mobo socket. OP's got a case of the PEBKAC.

Nooo, not the PEBCAK, I hate the PEBCAK. :Q

Maybe I should buy some new Cables.

Ah well, looks like Rant Fail. 🙁

On a more positive note: Installed new Gigabyte Radeon 4850(the one with the Zalman Cooler). Haven't Installed Drivers yet and am Upgrading from a 7900GS, so my next rant might be about Driver Conflicts!!!

mine occasionally come loose if i'm messing around in my system. my biggest gripe is how flimsy the connectors on the drives are. it's just a friggin little tab! i ahd one break off. fortunately, the contacts where still there and it still worked until i could get a new drive.

This, I found the same. Even the ones without the metal clips. I find I need to pull hard enough for them to come out, while being careful so my hand does not fly out and hit something when it does come out.

The ones that go in a 90 degree angle are even better.

If it's such a big problem it's either the drive connector or maybe the cable itself. You could try to add a dab of hot glue once you plug it in. (assuming it's a semi permanent setup, don't overdo it)

Iv never had them unplugg before, but i hate how fragile they are. I havent had any break either but the SATA plugs female and male are so flimsy it feals like you could snap the connection right off your HDD

Yes, as someone who repairs and occasionally builds computers for living, the sata standard, as far as the cables go, was designed to be made as cheaply as possible and is a poor design.
If you have to take them off and put them on again a number of times, often the cables won't hold securely and need to be replaced. And the clip on ones are really hard to get off in a tight space.

I noticed this too. I'm always scared to break them when they are harder to remove.

The worse connectors by far though are floppy power connectors. I've always hated those as they are hard to remove. Floppy drives tend to be in awkward places which makes them even harder. I've nearly broke a stick of ram because of this. I was pulling and then my hand went flying into the ram when it finally came out. Now when I have to take one of those out I just use a flat screw driver and work at it.

Yeah, and when I was kid we were lucky to just have a hard drive. We got ten mb. and we were happy to have it.

Early SATA connectors and cables sucked balls, especially if you didn't get ones with 90 degree connector bits.

Nowadays they are a lot better, but straight cables and old style ports are still going to live on in my mind as being devil spawn.

Never been an issue here. Still, fuck the SATA cable manufacturers for making eSATA cables different from regular SATA cables. That pisses me off.
