Just say no. Always.
Maybe he should lend him a phone instead?

Just say no. Always.
Poor-mouths should be an adjective
Poor-mouthing should be a verb
I've never heard of "poor mouths", what a retarded phrase...
<serious thread>
My wife and I have a friend who poor mouths all the the time, and I mean ALL the time. When we mention doing something like going to the movies, the first words out of his mouth is "I need to see how much money I have".
The problem is, he guy inherited a house from his grandfather, so he does not have a house note. He works a full time job, wife does not work and they have 3 kids.
The guy and his wife bought a gas hog SUV to transport their family around, and then complains about their gas bill.
Even though the kids can get WIC, neither the dad or the mom will go through the process of applying for the program. They can poor mouth, but they also pass up a couple of hundred dollars worth of free food every month.
Mr. Poor Mouth always needs to borrow money or food, or even both.
How do you handle someone that is always broke, even though the family should be able to live within their means.
wtf? The OP accuses someone of not living within his means - but uses an example of the guy actually living within his means to make a point (the guy checks to see how much money he has to go to a movie.)

I was going to say that him "checking to see how much many he has" isn't a big deal, especially when someone else mentions doing something.
I just used that as an example.
This guy, "everything" you ask him, the first words out of his mouth are something like "we probably do not have the money", or "I need to see how our money looks". When that is the first words out of someones mouth, and its like that all the time, they probably live hand to mouth.
Everyone goes through rough times, but its like some people get into a rut and do not know how to get out.
You're bad-mouthing your friend? My wife and I have a friend who poor mouths all the the time, and I mean ALL the time.

i have some friends who always seem to be broke as well. we're all nearly 30 years old and like 3 of my real good friends are still living at home with their moms. 1 of them just got his first credit card, with a $500 limit. the other 2 don't even have credit cards. i just do not fucking get it.
sometimes when they ask me to do stuff, i will tell them no because i don't want to spend the money. but that is because my wife and i save a lot to go on vacations. we've already been to cancun this past january, went to vegas in july, are going to bahamas in december, and aruba in march. we're also house hunting right now. so we have reasons not go to out and spend $100 out on the night on the town.
but it really bothers me when we go places and they are like 'can you spot me $20?' when they could just get a fucking credit card. but they all know i won't give them shit anymore. they know better than to ask me for $$. i used to lend it and would take a while to get it back, if ever, and since then i don't do it.
but it isn't like they are always asking for $ in general, and they will go out and have a good time on their own dime. they are my homies from growing up so we'll always be boys, but our priorities are just so different now.
