These DVDs will not give info on service menu because the parameters vary from brand to brand and model to model.

You should be able to calibrate your picture in the custom picture mode using the regular menu. I sincerely doubt you would need to adjust in the service menu.

If you decide to anyway, get the manual, and in Video Adjust 1 look for sub brightness, sub color, sub contrast. If you need to adjust geometry those are in the deflection section of the service menu. Again, the manual would help you.

Also check the thread in hometheaterforum.com under Samsung TXL2791F which is the model I have.

ostrow: that PIP function is not totally non functioning.. You can enable it in service to two tuners. Then leave the service menu and goto regular viewing. Once you are watching then push the PIP size button to activate it and last use the swap button to swap channels around . Works like previous channels with two tuners

I just simply dont realize the benefit though

here is a link for all of you to use to really screw up yout tvs

Wish I could find the svn setting on this Akai

I will have my backup copy of Sound and Video DVD ready to rent for cheap within a couple of weeks

just a few more tips on these adjustments that some here might not know about.

the service adjustments made to subbright , subcolor and subtint sub contrast are the same adjustments that are affected in the standard viewing mode. I would recommend to use the reset button in service so that normal and custom have the same setting to start with. Adjust the picture to your liking for day time viewing. Next wait until dark and then customize your custom menu values in regular viewing mode to your night time lighting conditions.. You will only need to adjust your bright and contrast levels down slightly .

to recoginize a lot of difference turn off all lights and play with the contrast and bright levels to see how
you can vary the black levels..

have fun and make sure that you write down all your setting values as soon as you enter the service menu or I will kick your ass

O yeah one more thing that you will like about the reset button .. Once you reset that unit you have the fun of going thru all your channels and relabeling them ....

:Q ;)

I'm trying to get this same TV. My 21" Panasonic is dying on me so I'm selling my spare system to cover the cost. Just got back from playing with the Samsung one at Best Buy. Very nice TV.

for those that need to adjust the brightness and contrast without a tune up dvd I can help you .

first off contrast needs to be adjusted : I recommend that you tune into the black and white Andy Griffith show this evening. Adjust your contrast up and down until the whites are bright but the darks are still dark. The darks need to be bright enough to see detail but not so bright that they wash out into bright shades of gray.

Next: tune into the PBS channel about 11:05 tonight after they stop broadcasting any shows .. PBS still sends a signal but the picture should be almost totally black .. Move the bright level up until there is some light to the blacked out PBS channel then adjust it down until it turns totally black , next turn it up +3 from where it turned black. For instance if it turned black at 105 move it up to 108. This way you will be leaning toward the bright side for daytime viewing and you wont miss and detail in Black and white shows.
After you go through this once go back and do it again because the contrast and brightness coincide with each other so adjustment on one affects the other slightly.
To practice the level of blackness that you need, just goto the full size screen MSDOS prompt on this computer and make sure that the black dos mode doesnt looky milky bright. Again move the brightness up on your monitor and then back down to the exact spot where total black starts...
Last if your monitor is too dark then you need to turn up your contrast to your desired light level

do this properly or Kaervak will kick your ass

Of course if any of you are setting in front of a monitor that is flickering because the refresh rate is too low I dont recommend that you attempt this .. As a matter of fact I recommend that you box your computer up and take it back to Wal-Mart

poolshark:

the service menu items vary from brand to brand. the svm setting is staring you in the face if you've been in the service menu. it is called "velocity modulation" and is in one of the video adjust menus.

it is pre-set to 0. someone in another forum thinks that is on, and one is off. that would be a first in my experience with on-off settings. i left it but may see what happens if i change it.

let us know if you don't find it and i'll try to steer you more precisely to it. and let us know if you change the setting what happens...

I have owned this TV for a few weeks now and it has performed extremely well . I just noticed Tiger Woods live on this TV and it is like I am there at the course watching him out the clubhouse window. Since I used the Sound & Video tuneup DVD and gave it a few weeks break in period. I have to say there is no Sony Wega non HDTV that can touch this picture quality.
This TV is still at samsclub and I highly recommend it to anyone that needs a 27" flat screen.

:DI sold a Sony Wega and bought this tv and I agree with the previous post that nothing short of a hdtv set will beatt the picture quality of my "cheap" Aiwa tv. This is a definite hot deal for anyone in the market for a nice tv.

My $850 32" Samsung HDTV (as we all know Samsung makes Akai) will blow away ANY Wega I have seen short of a $2k XBR450 (does or comes real damn close to matching the PQ of the XBR). Samsung/Akai has really stepped up their TV quality up this past year!

I think she is charging $1k now, but go to ebay and look for Sasmunggirl. Email her and ask her if she has the TSL3294 or 95 in stock. Shipping will be $50 to your door. No tax, brand new shipped from Samsung warehouse. Registered it for warranty online and have a 15 mos full warranty :D

PS__BJ's has it for $999 now, but you have to pay tax and lug this HEAVY sucker home. Better off getting it shipped from her and no tax.

Thanks for the info. You got a really good deal on that Samsung because it's also an HDTV monitor. Even $1000 is a pretty decent deal.
Too bad it doesn't fit my entertainment center. My entertainment center will only fit a 32.5" wide TV which means only a Panasonic flat 32" or lower-end Sony Wega 32" with speakers on the bottom will fit. Ugh, maybe I just need a new entertainment center although I just bought mine not too long ago!

Had to take the doors off (and keep them off) of my wall unit/entertainment ctr. BARELY fits. Was very nervous when I first got it and didnt think it would make it. My Wall unit is supposed to hold up to a 36" TV, but the Samsung is wide because the speakers are on the outsides of the screen. Yes, I got a great deal. BJ's has them for $999 now I believe. AWESOME TV. I luv it!

you go right ahead and think that.
while you pay $500 + for a "quality" TV, I`ll just sit back and watch my cheap TV with a smile on my face
