ComUSA inventory tracking IS SUCK :) seriously everytime I call to verify stock that it says they have on the website, they are always out in the store... lady gave me a raincheck right over the phone though, at that price! so no worries, I can wait.

Thanks again for the deal

CompUSA's inventory is a joke. I checked online for my local store and saw it was OOS. Doubting their system, I went ahead and drove myself to CompUSA and what do I see? 10 Radeon 8500 LE stocked neatly on their shelf.... Moral of story?: never trust their inventory system.

Wish my situation had been more like yours, unfortunatley it was the opposite! at least I got a rain checkout of it

There are LOTS more! And that's the 128MB Radeon 8500 beating the 128MB Ti4200.

Well it will come down to drivers then and I still think the 4200 did better overall than the 8500. ATI really isn't known for fast driver support/releases either. I do think the 8500 is a better value for the money for this price though. I'm going to tough it out until after Christmas and see what happens. I'm still using a GF2 GTS in one computer and a GF3 Ti200 in another and thats with an Athlon 1800 and 2000 CPU. I really want to upgrade!

I'll second (or is that third?) the inventory tracking problem. Website indicated "in stock", not even "limited stock" I get there and they say they have three in stock but can't find them. Not good enough. Some kid learned the back store room very well as I waited 20 minutes for him to find the last one in the store (Portland Oregon, Jantzen Beach).

Very GOOD idea! Especially as the CUSA stock runs out.

You guys are 'welcome' for the topic. It is an AWESOME card for the price. I got the retail version from CUSA a few weeks ago for $129 and am thoroughly impressed. It should make a decent system able to run Doom III satisfactorily. :)

to anybody who got the card, whats kind of ram? i've heard that the retail 8500le comes with either 3.3 or 3.6. is it either one or does the card only come with one type?

Well,

My raincheck finally came in and I popped this card into my rig last night. WOW what a difference from my radeon 64mb ddr vivo..... I can play neverwinternights with ALL options and aniso at 8tap (going to try 16 tonight) with supersmooth frame rates..... unreal2k3 framerates doubled. but man, that game is a crusher... still only getting around 4 - 50 fps... but I was getting like 15- 19 before

VERY impressed with this card. And now I know that i'll be able to at least run doom 3 acceptably.

I have one question though... as far as being compared to the 8500 retail, is there any real diff(besides for DVI) in the hardware? I mean, if I oc this thing to 300/300 my card is faster than an 8500 retail?

thanks again for the GREAT deal.

In case anyone missed this deal, and doesn't mind paying about $3.50 more, you can score this same exact card at cnetpc.com.

Just built a new system a month ago, and installed this card. My price was $103.50, plus shipping. About the only complaint I had with cnetpc was that I also ordered my winxp from them, it was backordered, and I had to call to find out why my order hadn't shipped yet (after 3 days). Otherwise, they were great to deal with! :)
