<< I'm sure no one is going to agree with this, but here goes:
My deal of the year? My upcoming Technics SL-1200 mk2 turntable. Ask anyone who knows anything about these things. They are $450 at ROCK BOTTOM prices. These things DO NOT depreciate as they get older (i.e. a used one that is 4 years old is STILL $450 if you're LUCKY). Contrast this with some digital camera that you buy now; in three years it will be worthless.
So, I bought one of these bad boys for $625 from Crutchfield. Pricematch to etronics.com for $450. Subtract the $100 for MSN rebate, and you get $350. Ask ANY DJ if he's ever seen one of these for that much. They'll tell you you're on crack. If I had my own amex blue, I would have bought another (as many as I could afford) and sold them on e-bay for a minimum $100 profit.
So, it's not about how much you save, it's about how much you can. Digital cameras, CPUs...these things all go on sale. 1200s? Never. So there you go.
(and besides...DJs get chicks!) >>
WOW! I wish I got on that deal when I bought mine. I think I spent ~ $800 for mine and I bought them used off eBay. I think you can get 1 at Guitar center during their 50% off list sale for 400, but that's only one, that you have to use the 50% off list coupon for.
Most of the time though, you pay between $450 and $499 for them.
