I just got the last one of the RTX rotary tools with 55pc accessories at Target for $28.88! I'm so happy. I'm so surprised because I heard all the stores sold out and not to mention, it is a Saturday! I stopped by Home Depot and they have a RTX 4 selling for $30 dollars and comes with 30 accessories. I think the difference of the two sets is this:

RTX 1:
variable adjustable speed up to 30k rpm
55 accessories

RTX 4:
3 preset speeds up to 30k rpm
30 accessories

Well thats what I gathered since I didn't bring the RTX 4 home with me. I would have thought the number "4" would have signified a higher model. Guess not... or am I wrong?

Thanks for all the help. Oh and no more RTX's at the Target in Sterling, VA. Hehe. =D

it was onsale for 30? hm the guy didnt say anything about that today.

the rtx4 is labeled as only a 3 speed, but you can still turn it inbetween, it just doesnt click into place like the three L/M/H labels. dunno if this has an effect or not.

got mine also (The Eden Prairie Target had like 10 of these things so if you live in Minneapolis it might be worth the trip. O and they finally finished the Eden Prairie Mall, it looks so nice now and theres a million stores!)

At the Home Depot I check the RTX4 is $40 and the RTX3 is $30. Was hoping for a yellow tag item. No luck.

My friend got me a raincheck at the Target in Metutchen NJ. I wonder when they are gonna get them in stock?

hm i was gonna check for you but it seems only the power tools section is down at blackanddecker.com
damn AT'ers again!

Does anyone know if the multi purpose cutting tool and the flex shaft made by Dremel will work with this B&D?

Please let me know ASAP if you could?

TIA,

Sal

all the 1/8" and 3/32" shaft tools should work fine, dunno about the flexshaft. I know B&D makes their own flexishaft.

I think I like the Dremel flex shaft better because the business end seems fatter on the B&D version. Though the B&D's flex shaft may be better to grip, I think the Dremel would be better to fit into tight places. I also don't see an equivelant tool to the multipurpose cutting tool in the B&D accessories. I'd like this handheld cutting guide for several things I can think of off the top of my head.

I see this sort of like buying a Mac over a PC. Sure, it's cool, but everybody uses a PC. I just don't want to kneecap myself by getting the B&D when there's a lot more for the Dremel even though the B&D is probably better and cheaper.

I did find something interesting though. Some guy on Gbay was selling the B&D flex shaft and said that it fit the Dremel. He mentioned the 395 variable speed tool, but not the Professional model (398). I wonder why? I also wonder if that means that if the B&D flex shaft fits the Dremel, it will work the other way around.

Anyway.. I just wanted to see if someone knew for sure. I may go pick up a Dremel kit tomorrow and try out some of the accessories on this B&D myself. If they do work, I'll probably return the Dremel and then just buy accessories for the B&D.

If I do go buy a Dremel and try the accessories out, I'll be sure to post my findings.

Thanks again,

Sal

I really think 99% of the dremel stuff will work for the RTX. Things like turning it into a "drill press", and router and stuff like that should work, atleast from my humble study of them they should. And of course both take any bit up 1/8" in shank size. So your not handicaped if ya bought the RTX, although if you bought a dremel you just short changed yourself .8-1amp in power 🙂. Nah, buy what ya want, just I guess I don't see not having access to 1% as a downfall 🙂. Now if I had a mac and messed out on 70% of what the PC offers, I would be sick to my stomach...yes sir I installed my flame suit today.

Of course ya can always ask the friendly staff at home depot or store like it, if most of the dremel extras will work.
