But I'm totally thinking that its still a great bargain cuase i'm sure i'll be using this for a few years - great investment and hopefully i can upgrade and get a system to match the monitor this fall - definately going to be after the next round of video cards come out.

Going back to 1280X1024 I'll give it a try but I'm afraid it'll look like ish

Just don't stretch it, playing with bars for me personally isn't a problem. I might be wrong, but I don't know why it'd look like crap if it didn't before at that resolution.

Like said before, it would depend on what game you're playing, how high the details are and what resolution you're at. If you have good results with a previous monitor at specific settings, you might want to stay with those.

I think a future Dell 27" or 30" LCD should be around the corner.

This will be THE size to get.

If you've ever visited the Apple Store and compared the 23" to the 30", it is NIGHT AND DAY! No comparison!

Plus, today's cards are not up to snuff with these new size screens. It's better to wait for the next batch of video cards that will easily be able to run 3D at these high resolutions (plus with Dual DVI capabilities for 25"+). By then, the prices on all these large size LCDs should come down in price.

In other words, it's better to wait for those who take their gaming seriously.

Slacker...

Wasn't it just a little risky sending all your credit card info in a single UNSECURE email...?

If I have to use email for credit card info, I ALWAYS send two emails with only half the number in each message...
Risky? I am not responsible for charges I dont authorize, that is between the card issuer and the merchant, thieves have many opportunities to get your credit card info, all of them much easier than grabbing random emails hoping for a credit card number.

I ordered from andy via email, never talked to him, I did hear his voice when I called the number I posted, it was his voice mail greeting where he also gives the @wipro email address, all this was after going through all of Dell's automated menus.

ARG!!!! Backordered:
"the Monitor you ordered is currently backordered. We do our best to keep
products in stock and available to our customers. However, excessive
demand situation exhausts our stock. Please be assured that as soon as
the backordered product is available, your order will be processed."

(even though I ordered on 3/5) Wow, I'm so pissed, it's not even funny.

I ordered yesterday morning and Dell just shipped mine today and changed my shipping method to Next day. Charged me an extra 50 dollars though, I'm going to call and see what's up with that.

Eek, where do you see this information. I ordered on Monday and mine still says "in production" on the order status page. Did you receive an e-mail from Dell?

I emailed Customer Care to inquire about the delay, and after several emails, I asked for details as to why there was such a delay, and that's part of the response I got. :(

I just setup my new Dell 2405 and it is big. No dead pixels that I can see. It comes with both cables for VGA and DVI. The VGA cable is connected to the monitor.
I ordered mine last Thursday and was shipped ground to NJ.
This definitely well worth the $911 to buy it.
Best of luck to those that are still waiting for them to be delivered.
Dell?s order status seems to be about 24 hours behind on updates.

Now to play some.

Alright! I just got mine. No dead pixels. This replaces my 2001FP and here are my impressions.

1- It's wide. I've never had a widescreen before but it feels funny. It's like I can't focus on the entire screen at once. Maybe it happened with the 2001FP and I got used to it and now i'm adapting again.
2- It's too bright. The colors are washed out. I gotta adjust gamma/brightness on this thing.
3- It's not just a streched 2001FP. We all know about the component inputs and the memory card slots on the left side but there is more to it than that:
*The power on button is not the same kind. You have to press it and keep it pressed for a second for the monitor to turn on. (
*There is a separate button for PiP now, no more navigating through the OSD everytime you want to turn it on (Good move from Dell)
*No more power brick, you just use a regular monitor power cable now.
*There are 5 small number shaped leds to the left of the buttons that let you know which mode you're using (VGA,DVI,S-Video,Composite, Component). Neat.
*And finally, remember on the 2001FP when you hit the switch source button by accident? you'd keep hitting to go back to , say, DVI and once it got there, the screen would go black for a couple seconds, THEN switch to DVI. Well, now, it doesn't happen. Not much of a change but appreciated nonetheless.
*

Just to keep a running tab, where are you located and when did you place your order?

Thanks.

Edit: And thanks for the mini review. I can't wait to see this thing in person.

There's ALWAYS something better around the corner. U'll wait for 25"+ and there will something bigger and badder around corner... and u'll end up waiting, and waiting, and waiting.... while using ur miniscule 15" CRT monitor :D

The biggest problem I'm hearing with this screen is that it's too big for gaming as the eye has to PAN from left to right. Even pro reviewers have mentioned this........
