Am I missing something here? What's the big deal. As I recall, the DDR 4400 system comes pretty much w/ the same specs except that it has DDR ram for around 600 - 700. Add the TFT 1702 and you get about the same deal. Someone please correct me on this. I'm trying to reason myself out of this one...

Thanks RossMAN! The shipping was reflected in the total until I got to the final screen (SUBMIT) and it was subtracted out. Good luck to all, I bet we'll see a bunch of 8200's on eBay in the coming weeks! :)

The 2.0 Ghz RDRAM system from Dell is the Northwood 512 L2 cache There is a lot of misinformation about this and some CSR's at Dell don't know what the hell they are talking about. I just received a 2.0 Ghz RDRAM system from Dell and it is Northwood 512 L2.

I thought about this deal but I just got a this same 2.0 Ghz RDRAM system from Dell for around $750 after pricematching Gateway and wheeling and dealing with free shipping and a coupon. With tax and everything this deal costs me around $1300 shipped for the same specs + 17" flat panel and MS Office small business. Which means the monitor and MS Office would cost me $550 more than I just paid. A good deal for sure but I already have a 21" CRT and this isn't worth the hassle for me. But if you were going to buy a system anyway and need a monitor it's a hell of a deal.

Damn, I had no idea you'd get ahead of me so much, so I had to do something about it :p Hopefully this upgrade will help me a bit, though I'm afraid I'll have to get my landlord's computer involved as well :) And no, I didn't actually upgrade just for SETI@Home, it just happened to work out that way :)

I don't understand how this is a great deal. When I do the math, doesn't work out. The monitor is really worth what, $600? Like someone else pointed out this system almost matches the 4400, cept with the 4400 I got a 40 gigger instead of 20 gig hard drive. Only real difference is the 2.0 cpu instead of 1.6
I doubt that RDRAM is that much faster than the DDR in the 4400.

Heh, me thinks that Dell is trying to be smart and make it look like a pricing error, by having the Add 15inch LCD for $400+ and the 17inch LCD for $167

Do the math again. It's a flaming hot deal Muffy. The monitor goes for $799. You can upgrade to a 40 gig drive on this too for only $20.

Well, I don't know if I should say thanx.... I spent almost $1400 for something I don't need at all.....but anyway, thanx :)

Edit: I just checked Ebates, it didn't show my order, how long will it take to "know" my order? Is it true that I just login to ebates.com and then go shopping then it will know?

I think this deal just died while I was configuring a system.

Here's what it said at first:
17 in (17.0 in viewable) 1702FP Digital Flat Panel Display [add $167]

It changed to this:
17 in (17.0 in viewable) 1702FP Digital Flat Panel Display [add $670]

OUCH!
