That's just my opinion, though.

I'll wait till it retails for about that, and by then there might be enough content to justify it.

Ya, that's what I'm thinking. Maybe next holiday season, we'll be staring down the impending releases of God of War 3, GT5, and a few more, then we'll see where they are price-wise. I was trying to talk myself into getting a PS3 before they take the EE hardware out, but I guess in the grand scheme of things, I'm just getting caught up in numbers, and any PS2 games that I want to catch up on are major releases, like GoW 1&2 and Collossus. I've already confirmed that those work with the compatibility search tool on Sony's website.

If you would have told me last gen that I'd be holding out on a Sony console due to lack of good games I'd have thought you were crazy.

My how things have changed.

Virtua Fighter 5 is the only game that interest me on PS3 right now. But I will wait until that game drops to $20 or so before I buy. I don't see myself buying PS3 game anytime soon. $60 for a game is just insane. Especially considering pretty much every PS3 game out is mediocre and worth $20 at best if that.

400 after tax is tempting. But what does the ps3 have game wise that the 360 doesn't?

I'm talking good stuff that's coming out this year not 08/09. all I know is heavenly sword.

I can afford it no problem but I know I'm gonna hear it for a few days, especially with me putting together a new PC(old one is from 2000) and buying a 24 inch lcd 1.5 weeks ago.

I just recently bought a used xbox bundle, so no need/hurry here about upgrading to the 360. I don't have a PS-2 and there are several mecha titles I'd be interested in, and I do have a need to upgrade my regular dvd player [like I bought the one I'm using in 97 :) ]. So for about $400 getting a PS-2 equivalent unit (with an extra controller) and a new DVD player that can also play PS-3 stuff along with 5 hidef movies ain't really that bad of a deal for my situation.

BTW, on a somewhat related topic - with all these things coming out using HDMI (and some only showing 1080p via HDMI) exactly how are we supposed to plug them all in when the TVs out there only have 1, maybe 2 ports?

I had to jump on this. Tax was $32.50, but shipping was free. Will cost me 382.49 in the end. That and the 5 free movies = hard to resist.

Is that what everyone is seeing too?

I saw this too, it was plain text, not an image/link. Not sure

And the warrenty vs. from costco.

As long as you don't max it out immediately and you're not carrying 10 other cards, the credit hit shouldn't be too much. The credit inquiry will ding you a little but that will be gone in 6-12 months.

In short...use it to buy the PS3, pay it off, and just hold on to it but don't use it.

I saw some others talking about the interest; they say at somepoint it said that the 0% interest was for a year but numerous are reporting actual billing stating till 2009.

Unless you have a card balance of half or more your limit, the hit should be minimal for the inquiry.

for those familiar with PS2/3 and watching DVDs on it, how necessary/usefully is the DVD remote?

From what I've read from some other places, the sony store often has free shipping during the middle of the week (tues-thurs).

I ordered last night. Got shipped email today with the tracking number. I don't care about the hit on the credit. It's so small it won't matter. I'm going to put the card in the drawer and never use it again.

You can use the controller, but obviously it is less feature rich and convenient than the remote. You either have to leave the controller on the entire time, or turn it off and on as needed. I got the remote as part of the Amazon deal, it works great.

It's also very handy for mundane tasks--going into the store, checking your messages, changing system settings, etc.

It's VERY easy to trip the power button though, I'm always knocking it by accident/my cats are always stepping on it.
