the whole point of Seth is that he has so much self control that you don't get emotions, but under this he has a temper that doesn't take much to set off and usually doesn't calm down until he's bloodied someone.

He is great, but IMO Ari Gold > Al Swearington. :D

I'm a huge Entourage fan, but Al > Ari by a long shot

Al is certainly more hardcore, Ari is a wimp. But Ari's lines are much better. Then again, Deadwood is not about comedy.

Al is willing to have a finger chopped off as part of a bigger plan to get rid of Hearst. He's badass :p

It's really clever how they do the soliloquies in this show - Al scheming out loud when he's getting a blowjob, or EB Farnum talking to the retarded guy... The dialogue is really excellent as well.

Wait until you finish the second half the season- it was horrible in season 2. Season 3 has been fantastic thus far however.

Anybody else have a hard time understanding the dialogue? It's like Shakespeare or something, all the grandstanding and odd verbiage. I like it, but i could sure use a translator sometimes lol.

I finished the 2nd Season last night... the only problem i had with the second half was what the hell was going on with the whole annexation thing between Yanktown and Montana... that really confused me beyond understanding.

3rd season rocks so far though

Yeah i almost never know what the hell is going on in the show :p, though that's true for many shows/movies. I'm not sure if it's because of the dialogue or if the writers just want us to guess at what's going on with the plot.

Ian McShane (Al Swearengen) just signed on to be in a comedy with the Lonely Island comedy guys (the guys on SNL that made the Chronicles of Narnia short film)

Yeah Deadwood is pretty much a play, maybe good enough to be called a modern day Shakespeare. I usually have to watch a few parts over to make sure I get the dialogue.
