In brooklyn you're look at $37K equivalent to columbus ohio, in queens it's $43K equivalent in ohio.

75K in Manhattan is equal to 47K here in Orange County. Not bad for say entry level I'd say. 75K in Brooklyn is equal to 60K here in OC and for Queens is 70K in OC.

I personally would live in Brooklyn. I stayed there last time I went and it's been drastically improving with Barclays bringing in so many new renovations.

In NY that is the equivalent of 35-40 k a year. NYC is expensive. But the job sounds like a good starter job for someone who wants to get their foot in the door. Just live cheaply and learn how to count your money.

I'd jump on this but I can pretty much guarantee other people will have better resumes (haven't done meaningful IT beyond family junk for like 8 years now) and frankly I have no idea how the hell I'd get setup in that area.

It is. Great entry level job to build up your skills, as others have mentioned. They also like to stay up to date, so you get to play around with the newest and greatest.

That is no way to live. My rent for an entire townhouse downtown columbus was about 800 a mo; not sure why you'd subject yourself to those living standards for what amounts to 30-40K a year anywhere in the rest of the country.

I live in Chicago; the point I'm trying to make is that is a job you can do anywhere with the same career path (IT is everywhere), so why be poor in NYC? A lot of people struggle in NYC, because it's the only place to break into their field (stage actors, finance, fashion etc)... IT isn't one of those fields.

that seems suspect.

I've been working in NYC (or the surrounding area) for the past 10+ years, starting at 30k in 2003-4.

at $30k I for sure felt piss poor (and had to have a roommate), but I've felt comfortably middle class ever since about the $45-50k mark.

working in Manhattan doesn't require living in Manhattan... you can live perfectly well in Queens or Jersey (Hudson County has the PATH trains into NYC, and most other towns in North/Central Jersey have train/bus service).

Brooklyn isn't a great comparison, though. unless you're in on the far, far eastern side of Brooklyn, it's basically Manhattan-East.

Well the other thing to consider: that same job description usually pays an equal wage (after factoring in the cost of living) everywhere in the country, so unless you get lucky with someone paying way more than necessary for that job in a given region, you're going to feel poor in just about any location.

I might rather feel like I'm making 30k in NYC as opposed to actually making 30k in NW Ohio.
Well, that's 30k more than I am right now - but my last job was only a little more, with similar job duties in a very similar overall function (working with a managed services provider - though technically I was hired on to that provider).

It is not piss poor. for only 40 hours a week it is a good salary for NYC.
I used to make 55K and I was doing fine. My rent at the time was only $1000.

My fiance was one of the last 4 candidates for a good job out in nyc. We were seriously thinking of moving... I'd definitely be able to do this job. Weird timing, but it isn't meant to be.

You don't need a car in NYC. Lived there 2 years. Bus/subway/train gets you everywhere.

I feel like people responding here must never have lived in NYC. 75k would be easy to live on. You can rent a room for 700-1000 a month and the rest is up to you really. Yeah if you make a ton of friends and blow 300 bucks at the bars every weekend you'll be in trouble but you can certainly survive if you plan accordingly. There are tons of cheap and excellent restaurants, and groceries while more expensive... still make it cheap to feed yourself. You also most likely won't need a car, so no payment/insurance/tolls there. You'd be pulling in like 4k a month after taxes... you could have A LOT of fun in the city with that. There are probably literally a million people there in manhattan on a lot less. My GF lived there for 2 years on 50k.

Plus not to mention you'll be living in THE CENTER OF THE WORLD. Yeah, go take an IT job in idaho somewhere instead. Milking cows before riding a horse into into the village that has the internet. Thats where you want to be as a 25 year old.
