There's no conspiracy here. Dell handles a lot of orders. It's going to take them awhile to get around to yours.

They certainly aren't going to have time to invest your money for any sort of return. And whatever interest they could have conceivably received will be eclipsed by the merchant-banking fees they pay on both ends of the credit card transaction (purchase and return).

I know it's hard for people to believe, but sometimes companies just make mistakes. There are those who think this was a plot, no doubt hatched following thousands of hours of research, to get all of us to log in to their accounts and turn over $75.

Dell is a fantastic retailer that regularly gives us great products at the lowest prices. I hope they don't honor this deal. It makes absolutely no business sense to do so, and I don't want to pay more for something down the road just because someone thinks they "deserve" to get something for a price that they absolutely knew was incorrect.

If it comes it comes. If it doesnt it doesnt. Save the class actions for another day.

Mine used to show processing, but it switched to "In Production" a sometime this morning. Maybe this is a sign of me getting something?

Nope, it just means your credit card is authorized.

Wow, 400 posts in 24 hours... alot of lurkers and newbies must've crawled outta the woodwork or caves as the case may be.

Yeah, my order status has also changed to in production.
So at the very least, if anyone else's order gets approved, hopefully mine should as well.

Looks like we'll make a crappin' party if this deal ever gets through!

I wonder how many eyes are watching this deal progress right now.

i don't like taking advantage of what is now clearly a price mistakes with a company i do a lot of business with. and have you ever called dell tech support? i seriously don't want to have to deal with a constantly delayed order over the phone with some dude with a thick accent i can't understand and who doesn't understand my "thick American accent." time is money and unlike you i dont have time to waste with this. i probably wont be able to have fun with the thing anyway =/ too busy... (but never too busy to post on AT!)

all in all, it boils down to the fact that because of dell my business is successful and im going to do my tiny tiny tiny mini little part to pay them back for that - by not taking advantage of some moron's mistake.

i guess that won't sound like logic or sound too logical to anyone out there but oh well.

One could make an argument that both driveling and dribbling have occured in the last 9 pages, but not 95% dribbling.

there really is no chance of these shipping. If they were in-stock instead of being backordered, I'd say that the first few would have gone through. But because the product isn't even in stock - it'll be trivial to catch all our orders.

Needless to say, I can't stop checking this thread.

No cancellation notices yet here. I ordered mine while this thread was only 5 posts long. Although I, like probably almost everyone else, was busy ordering instead of posting at that time.... :)

they dont actually HAVE your money. the temp charge holds the money for 48 hours. then is removed. at the same time the merchant is responsible for sending their merchant receipts to banks, at which point the money is actually transfered out of your account. they could even place a hold, release it 48 hrs later, then get the money after that, if the merchant is slow.
that's in laymans terms, im sure someone could explain it more accurately then me.
until it shows up at your door there's no guarantee.

I think I'll need to see this cancellation notice show up in my mailbox before believing it. I mean I know the likelihood of them getting cancelled is great and all, but I can surely hope no?

I always thought there was no hope in sarcasm. ;)

I think that nobodys order being shipped yet pretty much speaks for itself. I ordered the Switch/Wireless combo that same day and it is already shipped.

Right now they are probably handing around a notice trying to get the wording right before sending out around 1000 cancellation e-mails.

I agreee..... :( but we can all hope

but this was exactly the case with the 8250 fiasco last late november.. we all waited and hold our breathe and they accepted it.. but this time.. it's with a 3rd party product, and not their own, like the 4600 and the 200gb HD screwup this year.. so who knows....

Well, here is something interesting to add. I placed my order while there were just a few posts here and so I think I was one of the first. I got an email later stating that my credit card was declined and that I needed to contact my CC company to sort it out. If they didn't hear back from me, they would attempt to recharge it again within 72 hours and if it didn't go through they would cancel the order. Well, I called my CC and was told that they now automaically decline all orders placed online from Dell since they have had a lot of "fraud" in dealings with Dell recently (that's what the CSR at my CC company said anyway). I asked her what kind of fraud and she listed something like this:

1. People being overcharged by Dell on products
2. Problems (or never) shipping ordered products
3. After cancelling orders, Dell would take too long refunding money.

So, it turns out that I have to now have Dell manually palce an order with my CC over the phone... I did that and all is OK now. My order is still processing... waiting to be cancelled I suppose. :D
