Why flood (satiate) the market of potential Dell DJ buyers with a cheaper (and perhaps better) alternative made by a third party and at a huge loss?

We do it all the time in the automotive world when we have a new model year or new product. Granted we don't take the old vehicles down to 25% of the going rate..........Just interesting that Dell is coming out with it's own product.

this thread is funny. You have a better chance scoring with Jennifer Aniston then getting one of these Rios from dell.

I liked how quickly dell pulled the item once people started replying to the redded out FW threads...this seems to give credibility to someone saying that Dell now actively tracks the FW forum =)
We are all being tracked by Dell. Everytime you click on a link in AT forum, it is recorded (to generate refereal revenue for AT). Same as links on all these deal sites. It is extremely easy for Dell to pull up a report to see where all these buyers are coming from. So if some people think Dell doesn't know anything about Anandtech, they are kidding themselves.
Well, I don't think it's THAT hard for people to believe. This is, after all, the year of Enron, Tyco, WorldCom....Originally posted by: MontyBurns
I know it's hard for people to believe, but sometimes companies just make mistakes.
You are right, of course. But I personally think they owe me and my company for all the wasted time we spend on hold with their tech support in India when all we need is a replacement part. RMA's are the WORST with Dell.Originally posted by: MontyBurns
Dell is a fantastic retailer that regularly gives us great products at the lowest prices. I hope they don't honor this deal. It makes absolutely no business sense to do so, and I don't want to pay more for something down the road just because someone thinks they "deserve" to get something for a price that they absolutely knew was incorrect.

I love seeing the little glimmers of hope in every post...but come on..reality check.
Lets say only 10,000 got ordered, maybe for roughly $80 each. $800,000.
What should they be costing? Let's say $300. $3,000,000.
A loss of $2.2 million dollars? I sincerely doubt this will come through. But if it does, I ordered one (and only one), and I will enjoy it.
