I liked how quickly dell pulled the item once people started replying to the redded out FW threads...this seems to give credibility to someone saying that Dell now actively tracks the FW forum =)

I think this was the funniest thing I have read in several weeks. I did get in on the deal in the first hour, but I didn't get a chance to look at the thread again until now. Killing FW's posts was absolutely the FUNNIEST!!! I can't believe that you guys managed to kill at least 4 posts!

Will someone please explain what "killing threads at fatwallet means"

I know what fatwallet is and I go there often but what exactly happened with the threads there?

FW has a rating system. people can rate the thread w/ positive/negative. Then other FW users can filter out the negative rated thread and don't waste time to look at cold deals.

Now AT people put the link to FW thread here, and then everyone rate the thread as poor. Most FW users will not see the thread unless their filter is set to view all messages.

I hope they send us cancellation messages ASAP, because I cannot do anything but read this thread and laugh...

Yea, FW'ers also rate some obscenely good deals with poor ratings to 'hide' the post so that they themselves get the deal...

Which is a childish waste of time, sine most people view both forums. (Not to mention the deal was already plastered all over the place)

This was new to me too. If you look on FW site, notice the "rating filter". Then click on a post, and notice the "rate topic". If you click (-) enough, and a user doesn't have the filter set to "all messages" you'll never see the post.

It's nice to know.:D

FW is FULL of threadcrappers. I've found this forum to be better, but...

...even this forum used to be much more useful for finding 'hot deals' in the past, but it seems lately it's more whining and flaming than posting deals.

* I did get in on this deal...don't expect it to go, but what the heck? I got in on the NomadIIc a while back for $30.00 and change...even though I had to call to get the rebate; over 4 mos. later!

Dell uses Tech Data for is S&P fulfillments. They ship directly from TD's warehouses (I think there are 7 around the country). I'm pretty sure they're linked directly into TD's data base and just add a percentage to the wholesale price.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if TD has some pricing mistakes that Dell's system picks up automatically. The difference would be that I'm sure TD has a disclaimer of responsibility in their usage agreement whereas Dell has to deal with tens of thousands of end-users who wouldn't/don't care about a disclaimer.

Dell uses Tech Data but not exclusively. They have a system that scans all the distributors and they buy from the one with the best price. They also bring stuff in house and have started a system recently where the orders get fulfilled from the manufacturer directly to the end user, so distriburors are not involved for certain high volume products.

Has anybody received a cancellation email?

With the Diminsion 4600 computer all I received was a short email that looked like it had been forward about 50 time around Dell before it was sent out the public.

I have checked dell.com and I could not find the item anymore, what I found is RIO karma 40 gb for about $400. Possibility they are trying to clean out the old stock. That's my pure theory, maybe some hope .
