Wait a minute, so now we only have 14 days to file the rebate??? Are you kidding me? How can they just change the offer *after* selling the drives under the guise of a 30 day rebate window?

Good job folks,

Thumbs up to everyone here; I knew patience and a wait-n-see attitude would pay off. Thanks to the "Obese Purse" forum crew too.
Jeez and now to wait for the drive...and mail that sucker in.

That's a good question, and one that we should be asking both Dell and WD (let's not forget that the rebate is WD's, not Dell's).

I ordered two of these drives. The first one when it was 202.95 and then again 5 mins later when the price dropped to 198.86. I sent 5 emails and tried to call to cancel the first drive. None of the emails bounced but now I see today that both drives shipped!

I guess I should have just waited and had them adjust the price on the first order...but I didn't think that it would be a big deal to cancel the other drive.

Can I refuse shipment on the first drive with ground shipping? Doesn't UPS just drop these off at the door?

This is my first post to this forum. I have been following the forum for months and couldn't resist any longer. You guys are so entertaining that makes receiving a great deal a bonus. You guys are like Piranha being thrown some fresh meat. Thanks for the fun. Oh I guess I will like the drive too.

All,

The rebate form must be postmarked within 14 days from the purcahse date which is the invoice date (shipping date) of the drive. If you submit the form for the correct drive and your rebate is denied, please let me know.

I know there was a question about the OEM drive as well. If you seen the form posted with the OEM drive (A0009295) Pease send me a private message with your order # and details.

The rebate is for sku # A0060210 mfg part # WD1200JBRTL 120GB Caviar Special Edition Internal EIDE Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Cache - Retail Kit

Wait!
"the invoice date (shipping date)"

But doesn't the invoice have to be no later than the 13th - according to the rebate? So we're all screwed if they didn't ship on Sunday?
??
That can't be right.

if the purchase date is the shipping date then none of us will get in on this deal since no drives were shipped on oir before 10/13??????

Dell's phone order status system is stupid. I had to enter my order number 4 times (it kept transferring me each time) until finally its like 'your order has been released to the manufacturer'.
great.

Anyhow you people that contacted the BBB I think youre too jumpy. Dell comes through 99% of the time and you didnt even wait long enough (have some patience dammit). Regardless of if the rebate ends up being valid because the product ships late Dell will usually just credit you the $100 if its their fault, which would have been better for you in the first place. Its no wonder that some customer service people get frustrated when manic people get all jumpy for no reason.

Also for you people living in Cali it takes about a week to get from TN to CA using UPS ground. I ordered on Friday and the HD shipped yesterday (10/14) but my ETA is next week (10/21). Still in time to get the 14 day post mark, but I still have to wait for the snail mailed invoice, which I am going to request today online.

If it's 14 days from the shipping date, then that shouldn't be a problem. If they're shipped on or before the 16th like scheduled, then u have till the 30th to get the rebate postmarked.

If you look at the "MY ACCOUNT" page it says that my order was placed 10/11/02 and will ship on or before 10/16/02

Agreed that people are jumping the gun about the BBB (which is SUCH a waste of time anyway), let Dell have time to figure out a way out of this mess they created. Besides, if you think they screwed up the offer, you should see how well they do issuing credits! 😉

I bought a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, which BTW showed as a retail box on Dell but was really OEM, showing that you can never bank on what picture they post, and Airborne really messed up the delivery. I complained to Dell, hoping to get my $6 frt credited. No problem they said, sorry for the problem. I ended up getting a credit for $29.76!! WHA??? I tried twice to inform them that I didn't deserve that much credit but after they still couldn't seem to figure out how it got to be that much I guess each person gave up and never fixed it. Oh well, I tried....

So anyway children, the moral of this story is....let Dell work their "magic" first and let's see what wonderful things might happen! This could end up being the DOTY!! 😉

I have to agree with Flight483 on this.

I'm pretty sure Dell will do right even by the OEM folks--Dell does NOT want people to think of them the way they think of other companies, let alone they way they think of other rebate handlers (like TCA in New Rochelle, say), where you have to read all the deceptive-by-design small print.

Everyone who is honest, patient, polite, and gently persistent will come out fine in a business transaction with Dell--certainly in my experience, anyway.

You can refuse shipment on the drive that you don't want. That is what Dell told me to do for a monitor that was double ordered and couldn't be cancelled in time. As for UPS dropping them off, that is up to UPS. If they drop it off I am not sure about refusal of delivery. I would contact UPS and ask them how to do that if they were to just leave your packages.

How to sign up to be notified by email when your order ships:

1. Go to dell.com, click on either the Home & Home Office or Small Business link
2. On the left side click on My Account Login, and enter your email and password
3. On the next page, click on Order Status, then enter your Customer number and Billing zip code and click on Find orders
4. On the next page it should show your order date, order number, order status, etc. If your order hasn't shipped yet, under status it will be listed as "InProduction" which you can click on.
5. Another window will open up, click on the link that says "email notification"
6. Enter the asked-for info and you're g2g 🙂

I have the correct Rebate form for the JB not the BB if someone wants to host it

I cannot

i will not send it to you if you PM me because im pretty sure a whole lot of people want it and I dont want 500 Pm's

Don't panic. Read the forms T's and C's closely.

1. "Submission must be postmarked 14 days from date of purchase". (Purchase date = invoice date)
2. "Receipt must include A DATE that corresponds within the promo period" (your order entry date is A DATE that corresponds to this promo period)

To be on the safe side, highlight your order entry date and your invoice date and make copies of everything.

The form's wording is very confusing and really needs to be cleaned up. I wouldn't worry about the change from 30 days to 14 days (even if your drive is backorder that protects your rebate since the 14 day clock starts ticking when they invoice (ie ship) your drive.

it doesn't work. i've tried this for about 10 orders from dell. they have never emailed me when the product shipped.

Anyone saying don't call the BBB is full of crap. I ordered my drive almost a week ago and they still have not resolved putting the propper rebate up! That is why consumer affairs and bbb are there. To get keepy these whores in line!

I decided to call a CSR for online sales and this is what I was told.

1. Dell is aware of the rebate issue 14 days instead of 30.

2. Dell is trying to work this problem out with Western Digital.

3. Everyone will receive an email regarding the resolution to the situation by the end of this week.

4. If for some reason the rebate can't be done, you can return the drive with no restock fee.

Based on the information I got above, I'm going to just wait for the email and keep my order. If they don't come through with the rebate then I'll return it to them.

If they don't come through with the rebate, that's a crap load of drives that will be sent back to them at their expense, so it's probable that they will figure out a way to get the rebate to everyone.
