My order says it will be shipped on or before 11/25...how am I supposed to send the stuff in 14 days after my purchase date of 10/12 if I don't get it until Thanksgiving? I ordered the retail version as far as I know, it was $186.47 before rebates

The SKU on dell's My Account page lists it as A0009295 which is the retail version, I believe. However, it says the drive is out of stock. WTF?!! I ordered it Saturday at like 4 in the morning!!! Will this mean I won't be able to use the rebate?

Guess what? My drive has shipped.:)

I even have my ups tracking # which shows it already in the hands of ups in Memphis, TN.

I should have this Wednesday. Definately early enough to send in the rebate.;):D

Hmmmm....can someone sum up where we're at now for those of us that aren't inclined to read all 500 posts?
1) Is the rebate going to be valid for the OEM 8 MB cashe drive?
2) Is the rebate going to be valid for the retail 8 MB cache version?
3) Is the rebate going to be honored at all?
4) I ordered 3 drives on Friday ( on two separate credit cards, three separate orders). The first was the OEM version. The second was the retail version. The third was the retail version on a different credit card. I got order acknowledgements for all three orders, but strangely only got a confirmation e-mail for the last one I ordered. Any idea what gives?

I am sorry to tell you that the retail version sku number is A0060210 ($196) NOT A0060295 ($186).
People purchased the retail version are mostly seeing 10/16 ship day with some early people having theirs already shipped.

Rebate is definitely going to be valid for retail 8MB (JB) version.

NFS4 has posted the CORRECT rebate form link from WD:

I don't know about the OEM one though.

As long as it's postmarked within 14 days from date of purchase, you should be all set. Not sure how they were able to change that from 30 days to 14 and get away with it, though. The terms on Dell's site clearly stated 30 days...

I have NO idea what the legal implications of this are...but since they changed the rebate offer from 30 days to 14, what if we go buy a drive at a local store, send in the rebate using that drive, and then return the one we get from Dell to the store we purchased the second one? I don't see anything wrong with that. If there's a problem with this idea, by all means let me know and I'll edit this posting. I don't condone anything illegal, I just don't want to get stuck with a 200 dollar HD.

This would be the best option for them... ESPECIALLY since the OEM's aren't slated to ship until the 25th of November... better chance of seeing a retail boxed one in less time IMHO. Too bad they probably won't.

how did u guys get ur tracking numbers already? did u order real early? did u get the tracking numbers via email, or u had to call them up? i did not get anything after my shipping confirmation (not a rebate for, nor shipping confirmation as some ppl have said they got).

It initially said 30 days... new rebate says 14 days from date of purchase.... I think I'm going to make some other calls... I always hated DELL as a system builder. It's time for America to see how bad they suck. I might get one of those local news channels in on this....

A0009295 is the OEM version...

I actually ordered before the time of the first post in this thread. I just happened upon the deal elsewhere while I was looking for something completely unrelated. When I got to a place where I could post on AT, the thread was well in progress.

I asked for Dell to send me an e-mail when it shipped, but I still have not received any e-mail notification from them. I went to the Dell site & checked my order status (along with the order for my DVD drive which has not shipped) to find that it had shipped, tracking number provided. Checking the tracking number, it showed UPS has my drive.

While I called Dell on Friday night concerning the rebate and also sent them an e-mail, I have only received confirmation that they got my e-mail, no further response. Luckily, the rebate was obtained by others, and has now been posted in this thread. Thanks!:)

Final post from me on this one for tonight... I've resorted to contacting the BBB. We can argue the terming of the popup window until we're blue in the face, but the fact is that there were 2 separate rebate links on DELL's site (1 for A0060210 and 1 for A0009295). Called 3 different times today and got jerked around/bounced by 3 separate reps. I resorted to filing a complaint with the BBB. Not just for the rebate issue, but also the advertised shipping issue... there are extenuating circumstances that could prevent a product from arriving on time (i.e. AT effect on this drive), however, no effort was made to change the "Usually ships" date on the site whatsoever. If this were a singular occurrance, I could overlook it... but since it happened a while back with the Radeon 8500 fulfillment as well as the Logitech Z-560 fulfillment, it would only make sense for DELL to implement some sort of real-time inventory system that could be tied into their distributors systems. Someone mentioned drop-shipment from Ingram Micro... when I was a Small Business Sales Rep for a retail chain, I had access to their inventory levels... I would not order something if it wasn't available, nor would I give the customer the impression that they'd be able to get the product if they honestly couldn't... it's not even an issue about money anymore - it's strictly about honest advertising... rant done... I'm off to bed... will update once I hear back from the BBB....

well here's the deal. i'm not so sure they can get real time inventory status from IM, techdata, etc. And I know that these retailers have problems knowing when items ship. I think that latter database must be on a 36 hr delay, because packages I've ordered from dell (and buy.com for that matter) have sometimes arrived before i'm notified they've shipped. With dell that is explainable, but buy's systems are very very good (IMO). i will try to find out a bit more about the inventory status question from someone i know.

I got my order email confirmation on 10/12/2002 2.19am, but I still don't receive the tracking number too.
I hope they can send the tracking number to us ASP......
Good that NTS4 post the link for the rebate form from WD..... anyone know which is the correct one since there is rev4 and rev5.....?
