The way that I see it is that you would price match to Officemax's price after instant rebate, which would be $139.99. Now.. That should be an extra $4 off for the 110% difference which would make it $135.99. Subtract the $100 in rebates and that would make it $35.99 plus tax. Now.. This would definitely be a decent alternative to the OM deal if you weren't able to get in on it.

It would look like this..

$179.99 Circuit City's price
-$44 (PM to Officemax)
-$20 MIR
-$80 MIR
=$35.99 + tax on $135.99

Very comparable deal, but more $$ in rebates and definitely more of a hassle.

BTW.. How do you figure that you'd get the $50 WD MIR? That's only through OM, isn't it?

Edit:

ok, i just read CC's policy on price matching...they won't PM the rebate...soo, they'll only PM up to 159.99, not 139.99
They'll price match an instant rebate, but not a mail in rebate. They will give you 110% of the difference, which would make it $135.99 before $100 in rebates. It works out to be about $5 more, but you have to find a Circuit City that's willing to do the price match without calling your local OM to check stock. This is your point, isn't it? You are thinking about doing it through CC because your OM is out of stock at the moment?

haha, yes yer right...i actually just edited my alst post to reflect that...but yea, like i said earlier, based on the PM policy on the CC website (http://www.circuitcity.com/cs_contentdisplay.jsp?c=1&b=g&incat=11061), which says, "Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers, and special financing," i think they will not counter the 20 IR of OM.

also, i see you included both rebates offered for the CC HD. however, on the botton of both rebates (http://www.circuitcity.com/cs_conte...t=Help+&+Services/Rebates&incat=73913&c=1&b=g), it says: "Limit 1 rebate(s) or other promotional offer(s), per person, per customer, per purchase." because of this, i only factored in the $80 rebate.

quick question: if i were to have gotten this, would i have been able to get the $50 of $250 and made a cheaper buy? :

120GB HD --- 59.99AR
MicroAdvantage CD-RW drive --- 9.99AR
Hival 100pck CDRs --- FAR
SpinX 50 CDRs --- FAR
Slim jewlel cases (50) --- FAR
some kind of mouse (item number is 20234836) --- FAR
" " " keyboard (item # is 20234925) --- FAR

would that have worked?

No.. You would get both rebates at Circuit City. What they mean by Limit 1 rebate is 1 rebate EACH and not just "1" rebate. So.. If they were offering 3 mail in rebates, you could get all of the mail in rebates, but you could only submit 1 of each. Follow?

Yeah.. Most likely, but you'd end up with more rebates to fill out and end up with more stuff that you probably don't need. I mean, if you're continually adding more FAR stuff and are able to use a bigger coupon, you'll get your initial purchase for less. Think about it.. If you use a $50 coupon instead of a $40 coupon, your hdd will be $10 less. BUT.. You'll have more stuff and more rebates to fill out. I'm overflowing with OM FAR stuff right now. I was going to do the slim cdr jewel cases again, but I just don't have any more room for any. I'd say that I have about 300-400 of them right now.

lol

but the beauty of my situation is that my dad is paying the initial price (good thing about being in high school) and my sister needs some new stuff for her comp (old gateway 800mhz... so, i don't have to worry about the big first price, let my dad get all the rebates, pay him the little that is needed to be paid, and sell the stuff i got free to my sister ;)

Yep. :)

Sal

alright then, lemme try these calculations one more time...

179.99
- 20.00 (PM from OM)
- 80.00 (CC rebate)
- 20.00 (CC rebate)
------------------------------
= 59.99 + tax

hmm...not too bad...not too bad....that's def money that will go into getitng an external enclosure for this sucker to use w/ my soon-to-be-ordered IBM T40...mmmm

so, do my fellow message board mates approve of this plan of mines?

if you're referring to my price quotes, then yes, technically the OM and the CC prices are the same. however, keep note that OM doesn't have n e more drives, while CC has not had a bumrush of people trying to get their WD 120 gig HD all day......yet. =)

Getting the drive from CC might be a good idea. Seeing as how i placed my order today on the drive, and it's on back order. So I have no clue if i'm even gonna get the drive. I guess i'll have to wait and see if it comes in.

For those of you in Seattle that want to go B&M... talked to the Ballard store manager. He said they should be getting more drives in on Tuesday morning.

Woohoo!!! I got the drive for $29.99 + tax, (at 5:45 pm on Sunday no less). OK here's what I did.

I live in the LI NY area and for some reason OfficMax pulled their flyers out of the papers this weekend. All the stores were only offering "in store specials" which were pretty much crap except for the Cendyne 48X CDRW for $9.99 after rebates. Anyway I tried and tried to get the drive on-line and by calling the 1-877 number all night and morning and I got no where. So what I did is print out the ad with the picture showing the prices before and after the rebates. I also print out the entire checklist of items onsale for this week. Now even though OM pulled their ads for the greater NY area this weekend the website shows the deals are for the NY LI area and this prints out on my OM checklist. So I go to my local OM (there ar 4 near me) around 5:45 pm and before I do anything I ask them if they have the drive that I'm looking for. The manager goes into the back to get the drive and when she comes out I pull out my paper that has the details on the 2MB and 8MB versions. She see's that I have some paperwork with me and she says "OK what do you have"?. I explain that I just want to make sure I'm getting the right version because OM is selling 2 versions of the drive. She looks at the numbers with me and we see that she does indeed have the 8MB version. (She also states she hasa bunch more in the back) So now that I know they have the drive I show her the other paperwork I have stating the details of the sale. She says she is aware of the sale and also states that she doesn't know why OM Corperate pulled the ads this week but since I had the print out with all of the info she would gladly honor the ad. She then take me to the register and tells the cashier to honor the ad and take $20 off for the instant rebate. As soon as she does that I pull out my "Ace in the hole", a printable $30 off of $150 from Staples that I got over at "Chubby Wallet". ( Go ahead and do a search at the FW for Staples Coupons and you will find some printable ones that are good "in-store" and "on-line" good until 5/30). So anyway she looks at the coupon and says "yes, no problem". She then take off the additional $30 So I walk out of the store with my 120 Gb WD 8Mb cache HD for only $109.99 + tax. She didn't even make me buy any FAR stuff to get it back over $150.

Anyway for all of you people trying to get in on this deal, forget about getting it on-line. Just print out the Staples "In-Store Coupon" and take it to your local OM. If they happen to have the drive still in stock, you're in luck. They usually will not honor a "On-line Coupon" (not even their own) but a printable "In-store Coupon" from another vendor they usually have no problem accepting.

I thought the Maxtor 80Gb 8Mb Cache HD that I bought last week from Staple for $29.99 after C&R was a good deal but this one is even that much better.

Thanks ever so much MysticMan1 for yet another great deal from OfficeMax or Staples. You rock!!!

a little bit off topic: what is the capacity level lable the rebate form asks for? I only see "Special Edition 120 GB" on the right bottom corner. This is rare. Usually rebates ask for UPC code.

BTW, I got the $30 off in a local OM. The store in Chicago, on Howard, still had a box of the drives this afternoon.

I've never heard of CC taking a Staples coupon, usually it's just between O MAx Staples & Office Depot.

I did the hard drive & a phone over the phone yesterday. The drive is on backorder, so I won't know for a few days if I have it. On Long Island I couldn't do the deal B&M.

Does anyone know where the rebate for the speaker phone is? I didn't see it listed

I phone ordered the WD HD, along with a filler item to hit $150, using the ??????? coupon code. The CSR said the driver would pick up the coupon when it is delivered on Wednesday. Will the driver just leave the package if I am conveniently "not home" on Wednesday? Or do I need to come up with a coupon to get delivery?

Officemax usually just dumps packages on my doorstep when I am not home. Have they changed their policies?

Thats great that ou got in on the deal with the coupon, but you should remove the coupon code from your post. I don't think thats allowed here.

Edit to remove coupon code from the quote

Heh, I can bareley rememberfrom that long ago. But one good thing... I still have a ~210MB harddrive from WD that was in a 486DX [Turbo, accept no immitations!]. I even remember that computerplace... selling Doom Shareware on 3.25" floppies for $15. On that note, I think I know someone with some EDO memor as a keychain : p
