Are they saying no IR or no MIR? If they just say no MIR and don't have any printed rebate forms, ignore them and print the forms off the OM web site. There are no restrictions mentioned there. I almost always use the forms off the web site for my B&M purchases because I can print them larger to reduce the chances of them keying info wrong from my almost microscopic printing on the tiny preprinted forms ;-)

Wow I got the WD1200JB deal too! I made sure it was a two 60 gig platter version, which it was! Very happy with my purchase. Not a bad price at all! Imagine if the Raptor HD ever went on sale this cheap lol. I bet the lines would be long maybe for that.

This morning I went to my local B&M to get in on the deal. The manager wouldn't take the printoff of the online coupon (wasn't surprised). SO then I figured ahh well. ~$60 AR for the drive is still sweet. It was the 8MB so I snagged a pair. So he rings them up and no $20 IR. So I says "WTF? Your weekly ad says ther is a $20 IR." And he replies. "No, there isn't or it would have rung up that way." I could tell the dude knew about the deal and was trying to crap on my day.

Anywho, he said he would honor it if I could print off the ad and bring it in. Long story short....I got my $20 IRs after a trip home to print off the ad from THEIR OWN WEBSITE. But no $30 off $150. What a shame some local stores have to be a PITA.

BUT ! Muaaaaahahahaha !!!

I finally got in on the deal over the phone after 3 tries!! Woooohooo.

First try, 15 min hold time, CSR SUPPOSEDLY checked stock. Had a pi** poor attitude. Said both 8MB and 2MB were OOS. Said that was pretty much the only thing he had sold all day long. No dice.

Second call, tried about 100 times and got busy signal. Gave up.

Third time was definitely, definitely the charm. Just about an hour ago I thought ahh just try again. 20 min hold. Friendly female CSR. A littler flirtacious. I was feeling her vibe. Sounded like a redhead. I dig readheads. Anyway she checked my zip code's inventory and says they are OOS but she would backorder the 8MB with delivery in 5 days. So I says what the hey. Lets roll the dice. At worst I'll cancel. I add my FAR item to get up over $150 (got the 100 pack Imation CDR's) and she rings up my $30 off $150 with no hassle. Says. "Hey wait a minute. This is in stock. They'll deliver this Tuesday."

WooHoo for the Hoocheroo ! Scored on the deal with a $37.79 AR 120 Gig SE Drive

Point to this long drawn out and overly dramatized post?

Persistence. Try on the phone again. You don't have anything else to do or you would be out doing it. You never know what might happen. Maybe ASK if you can backorder one and see what happens !

There were about 10 there, I got one. And then went to BB fro PM, the guy was cool with the PM. He just gave me a paple with the HD price [139.99], and also I can get the $80 rebate.

Happy with these two Hd, gona build up my raid system..:D

Picked up 2 of the 120 gigs at the Waterford Lakes Officemax in Orlando (near UCF). The only models that they had were the 8MB ones, so my roommate and I picked some up.

The manager was really cool with my coupon, though it was a web only coupon. The employees at that store are the nicest by far of all the OMs that I have shopped at.

$0.25 a gig isnt bad either :_)

Interestingly, one had not sold a single SE because they were telling people the SE was not eligable for the rebates. I guess they based that on the picture in the ad, but we all know the ad listed both item numbers and the rebate forms both say ANY WD 120BG drive.
(If nobody's mentioned this yet...) The 1200JB (at least the one I got) is in the new plastic packaging, as shown in the ad. You can see the drive itself (model number and such) through the back of the plastic packaging. Before, I'd only seen the BB drives in this packaging, but I guess they're doing the same w/ the JB's now too.

The rebate sheet has Offers A-D. Offer is limited to one rebate check per customer/name/address. Can I use the same address or do I need to use an alternate address? Thanks.
Each offer is different on that sheet. I'm doing a rebate for the WD 80GB SE drive, the WD 40GB drive and the 120 GB SE drive. If you look at the promotion number for each coupon, they are different. They all have their own "03-" numbers so I don't see why you can't get the promotion more than once as long as it's not for 2 of the same exact drives.

That's how I interpret it anyway.

Got mine at the Dunwoody Officemax (5min away) and am using right now.
No wrangling needed. Manager accepted the printable Staples $30 off $150 without blinking.

Hopefully this is the last EIDE Drive I purchase.

Thanks for the post MysticMan.

With B&M you have to wrangle with the CSR/MGR about coupons, IRs, etc. The phone coupons are the same as the online coupons, except the $25 one. So why are you bothering with the trip? If your B&M has it in stock, I would imagine your regional shipping warehouse would have it too.

Are you getting a thrill out of being your own UPS man or getting the package the same day?

Well, this morning the drives weren't online, the phone lines weren't open and everybody was freakin' out that the drives were going to be OOS by the time the Telephone CSR's came back to work. Which everyone speculated would be Tuesday. Only other option was to try the coupon at the B&M. Thankfully everybody was wrong, and the CSR's came back this afternoon.

From what I can tell, even ordering by phone this late in the day is YMMV. People have had trouble with getting coupons through, and finding inventory, etc. It took me 3 tries.

So yup. This morning I got a thrill out of physically getting my HANDS ON the drives today for ~$60 each. But now, I'm doing the happy dance because I got in on the deal by phone for $37.79 AR with the coupons etc.

I bought about $288 amount of stuff yesterday from a nearby office max to secure it (WD 120 gig hd, 100 pack cd-r, 52x. cd-rw, ext. cord). My friend did the same. When he went to refund and repurchase today when the deal started, they said it only applied to some stores (the ad) near the cities in the nation. Somehow he bitched his way to get it for pretty cheap. However, i doubt they are gonna do this for me. My question is that if i call in with my receipt and stuff will they do it for me...who do i call? And stupid me, i used cash instead of credit thinking it would work out better. Will it still work with cash?

THANKS

Was that CDRW drive the 48x CenDyne? Any chance that was a repackaged Lite On? (Maybe it's only Verbatim that does that, but I thought I remembered CenDyne mentioned too.)

THANKS

Get all of your item numbers together and try to order it all via phone @ the the number posted earlier. 1-877-633-4236. Start by having the CSR check stock on the drive. Use a $30 off $150 phone in coupon (search around they can be easily had) put it on your credit card and cheese like a fat rat if they have the drive. See my post above. I tried 3 times on the phone before I had success.

Then you could take back everything to the B&M store and get back your frogskins. :D

Thanks mysticman for the heads up on this. I have my 120Gig, 8Meg cache, three year warranty drive for just twenty five cents per Gig. Can't help remembering when the original Western Digital Caviar 120 -- no that was 120 Meg not 120 Gig -- was the drive of choice and my son-in-law drove me half way across San Diego to a place that had adverised "Only a buck a Meg". I got one and felt just as happy as I do today. My how times change.

Jeeze,

I got one of these ................25 cents a gig.......I remember when I bought my first HD, it was a 20MEG Western Digital for $350 at the Pomona Computer Swap Meet. I was thrilled! The year was 84'. Big drives....500 meg were selling for over $2000. What a trip.

Prior to that I had NO Hard drive......just two 5 1/2' floppies....and no internet either...............anyone remember BBS's?

Success!

I live in Tampa, FL. The closest we have is in Sarasota. It was worth driving 2.30 hrs. Called them up at around 3 PM and was told that they would honour the online coupons (infact Sarasota store isn't even listed as one of the cities having the current in-store specials!). Hurriedly printed out the coupon along w/ the ad scans, took the products as per Deal 3 outlined in OP (mostly), the jabra set wasn't available so had to take mouse and another item to make up that $10. So ultimately got the 8 MB cache WD 120 GB HDD + 52X CD-RW + bunch of insignificant others for $20 + tax.

Note: I and one of my friends took the last of the 2 HDDs in the Sarasota store. May be more are on their way to the store. I called up the OM at Crystal River and they too said they honour the online coupons but the HDDs were OOS when I called them @ around 3 PM. They said they are going to get more on Wednesday. The CSR on the phone told s'thing like this (not the exact words): "This is how the system works. If you order a product online and try to use coupon(s), it still will be processed at the B&M stores close to the place you ordered the product at and the (reduction of price due to) coupon will be processed at the B&M store. So yes, we do honour the online coupons"

So forget waiting for hours for it to show online guys, take that phone, give a call, find out if your closest OM honours the online coupons, take the print outs of ad scans + coupon and just go get 'em!

Thanks diggler and thanks anandtech.

I had to go to the Omax B&M (physical store) and had the CSR order the items I wanted. They had to over-ride the prices and also enter the coupon code. The WD 120GB drive was on backorder in the IL warehouse.

The thing that pissed me off was they had the items I wanted in the store. They would not honor my $30 off $150 coupon since it was only valid for on-line and phone orders.

I noticed that the drive had a new packaging. You could see the model# and serial # of the drive w/out opening the package.

well, as this day comes to a close, lets take a moment and take stock of what has transpired. some have had luck, other have not. i am one of those that did not have luck on my side. poo. maybe its because this is the first "hot deal" i have ever tried to pursue. maybe it's becaus ei'm new to this. eh.

but alas, tomorrow is another day. and, i have an idea.

i know that circuit city (CC) is selling the same drive as the one offered by office max (OM) - or rather, both are selling the drive with the part number "WD1200JBRTL," which many of you know, is the 8MB, 3 year warantee. CC is selling the HD (http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&catoid=-10263&qp=03684&bookmark=bookmark_5&oid=71459) for $179.99, but are offering rebates for it.

My idea is:
1. print out a OM circular from the internet; i'll print out two copies: one of the whole page, and a closeup of the ad that details the HD selling @ $159.99.
2. go to my neighboorhood CC and ask the sales representative to price-match (PM) the OM deal. (I also plan on calling ahead of time and asking if i can show, as proof of the OM deal, the printouts of the circulars i got from the internet. I also plan on mentioning that i did not recieve a circular this week from OM, but went online and found it)
3. if i can have the price match, i'll buy the drive.
4. when i get home, i'll take advantage of the $80 rebate offered by CC, plus the $50 rebate offered by WD.

what i was wonderin is...n e tips, comments, or criticisms of my plan? i'm a newbie at this, but from the looks of this my plan kinda makes sense.

oh yea, i'm also gonna push for CC to match the instant rebate (IR) also offered by OM.

so, theoretically..

179.99
- 20.00 (for the PM)
- 20.00 (for the IR)
- 80.00 (CC rebate)
- 50.00 (WD rebate)
_________________

holy shit...i just realized i could get this HD for 9 dollars. does that make sense? if it doesn't, please tell me =). if it does, then.....SCORE!

:::edit 12:10 am, 5/26/03:::
ok, i just read CC's policy on price matching...they won't PM the rebate...soo, they'll only PM up to 159.99, not 139.99

:::edit 12:26 am, 5/26/03:::
the $50 rebate is only for WD drives from OM. poo.
ok, so the revised pricing for the HD, if bought from CC, is...

179.99
- 20.00 (for the PM)
- 80.00 (CC rebate)

Rayyyyy, the $50 WD rebate is only if it's purchased from OM. Sorry to burst your bubble. :) Unless you're referring to some different one?
