Now for the nitty gritty.

According to the WHOIS lookup midPhase.com was registered 9 months ago on 1/4/2003.

On behalf of Hot Dealers everywhere I contacted midPhase's sales department and asked a few questions. Their replies are denoted with ++ at the beginning.

1) When does the offer expire?

++ Offer is not going to expire anytime soon

2) What are your server specs/data center details?

++ We are using Pentium 4 2.4ghz with 1GB ram and 2-80GB hdd
colocated at Equnix right now, as well as a few similar servers at
RackShack. We are moving all customers from RackShack to equninx
but have a few more weeks of work before this is completed.

3) How long (since what month/year) have you been offering web hosting and how many PAID employees do you have?

++ Web hosting since March 2003, in business since Dec 1999
++ We currently employee six people: Me (Dan), Zak, Alexander, Dima, Josh and Alec.
++ We have a few independent contracters on call in Cali near Hurrican Electric in the case of a problem (we have a couple boxes there.)

4) ) Do you have a referral/affiliate program?

++ We pay $10 per signup, however our Commission Junction program starts in December and will be $50 per signup.

We all remember the CyberWings fiasco which has made us all weary of web hosts offering spectacular deals. I can officially confirm that the saying "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" is absolutely 100% correct. For that reason I currently have web hosting with only the best web hosting companies (AddAction.net, CredibleHost.com, ThrillHost.com, Idologic.com).

Before signing up with any web host you should always research and ask questions. The best place to do that is using WebHostingTalk.com's SEARCH button ... if you SEARCH for midPhase there should be a few threads. In all fairness you may want to read this.

Do I recommend/endorse midPhase.com? No because I do not have an account with them and have no first hand experience regarding their servers, data center, uptime or support.

The only current web hosts who have the RossMAN Seal of Approval are:
  • AddAction.net - Best value for single domain web hosting with nice cPanel bluetrix with auto installer scripts skin.
  • HTTPme.com - If you're a WHT regular you'll know that it's reputation speaks for itself, check out the server specs
  • clook.net - Awesome server specs, datacenter, uptime, and support.
  • Idologic.com - cPanel bluetrix skin with auto install scripts, excellent servers located at a good datacenter and fanatical support (which I have used several times).

Other web hosts to consider are:
  • $9.99/yr RippleHost.com
  • $25/yr HostPC.com (sale ends Saturday 9/13)
  • $15/mo ThrillHost.com (will be the exclusive host for fox302.com pichosting and HostForFree.net)
  • $13.50/mo dathorn.com - Already an AT favorite, needs no introduction, best value for a reseller's account.
  • $9.95/mo CredibleHost.com - Search WHT for CredibleHost to find several positive reviews, offers your choice of control panels, PM me for details on how to get FREE DOUBLE resources and FREE 2 months if you pre-pay for 10 months. So for $99.50/yr you get 1 year web hosting with 2GB/20GB and control panel of your choice.

If you are interested in my current sig please check out noc24.com look at the VS1 TurnkeyReseller plan for $50/mo, sign up for a FREE 7 day trial (no credit card needed), if you do sign up for the service mention WHT during sign up and your $100 setup fee will be WAIVED.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Ross

9/10 10:20AM Edit - Forgot to mention a disclaimer that I do not work for or represent ANY of the companies mentioned in this thread.

Excellent post from our Web Hosting King.

I have experience with Dixiesys.com, Dathorn.com, and currently Idologic. Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Looks like at good deal, I am a little scared of a new hosting company hosting since may, I have been happy with AddAction deal here AddAction deal. I have had a good experience with my free 6 months and for $6.50 a month after that with good uptime and great customer service. Thanks RossMan..

You're welcome, does AddAction.net host your web site (rasputinj.com)?

Please save the flames but I don't know anything about web hosting.
I have a cable connection at home with a few computers networked together. If I was to make one computer available for the sole purpose of having my own website with maybe family pictures and home movies etc...just for friends and relatives to be able to visit and see what is happening lately with me and my family. Where would I be able to find some information on what I need to set something up like that.
Thanks,
Ed

use dathorn and am happy, but wouldn't mind something a little cheaper maybe...I have three sites on my reseller account and none of them have that much traffic, but better safe than sorry.

Hi,
I am only interested in creating a custom email account for my family - no webhosting. Is there a company that will allow me to check my emails via the web (just like hotmail) or telnet?

Thanks
Kamui

RossMan - Thanks for your research and update info. I currently have a simple ripplehost account for my son and a couple at dixiesys (from the 3-95 and 2 for 1 days). Not in market for new ones just yet but I do appreciate your sharing. :)

You're welcome.

One of these days you should consider consolidating your RippleHost and Dixiesys web hosting accounts into one reseller account which starts at $9.95/mo for 1GB disk space/10GB bandwidth. Comes with WHM (web hosting manager), cPanel control panel and unlimited domains you can host.

Rossman,

thanks for the reply. Does squirrelmail also have a protocol to filter spam?

Thanks
Kamui

From where do you get that? e-rice?

Also rossman, on your webpage, rossmantech.com, how do i get to see the plans? do I have to fill that crap out first to view the plans and their pricing? I don't plan on buying any hosting, right now im paying 5$ a month for 1gb space, 20gb bandwidth, with the first 6 months free, but i Just wanted to browse your site and check out the plans.

Also, where did you get that site layout?

Kamui - The $9.99/yr plan I mentioned earlier is offered by e-rice.net, I'm not sure if they offer spam filtering software or not but I do know how you can find out. Send an e-mail to custserv@e-rice.net

fumbduck - Yes that's from e-rice.net.

Please read my post dated 09/10/2003 10:29 AM which has already answered your second question.

edit - I have e-mailed e-rice.net's sales department asking about their SPAM filtering software, let's see how quickly they respond to my e-mail. Starts the stopwatch.

I don't see how that answers my question at all, the post is at 1:29 for me, by the way. I am not asking how to get that deal, I am just asking about your website rossmantech itself, when I go there and click on view shared plans and pricing, i have to go through 3 pages of signup crap, I was just wondering why?

So i'm guessing you got the layout from noc24?

fumduck - What you see on rossmantech.com is the default template offered by noc24.com.

Obviously it requires some editing, configuring, tweaking, setting up Paypal accounts, accept credit cards, plan prices, etc. I have done NO customizing at all, I would recommend signing up for noc24's 7 day FREE trial account (no credit card is needed) so you can test it out for yourself. There's some REALLY cool features. Account signup, billing and tech support are all handled via ServerMate software so after a little editing and configuring you'd be ready to go.

I am going to pick up hosting within the next month... Looking for ideas.. I'm primarily going to use it for personal picture hosting, and Forum picture linking... I expect maybe 2-3 gb a month of transfer, and prly need about 300-500 mb of space, although more is always welcomed...

Should I try Addaction, or Maybe the Special Deal from Crediblehost?

I'm willing to pay up to 10 a month, would like some Email accounts, don't need much in terms of package bundles, the sight is mainly just for HTTP/Image Hosting.
