TD seems to be one of the few eTailers not based in CA. The shipping is apparently less if you're on the east coast (~$13 to VA).

If this one were all black instead of silver, I'd probably pick one up for replace my current case when it wears out. Oh well.

they are decent cases... I have used two or three of them... the aluminum is a bit flimsy, though.. I would not want to use this case for a box that I would be in and out of all of time.. also, you do not get the feeling that the handle is going to hold up... but for a machine that is staying put, it is really ok for a nice, easy build.. removable MB tray.. good airflow with the 120mm fan... Seems like a good deal, too.. depending on shipping..

I think there's an additional 80mm fan in the front which the X-QPack 1 does not have. It's also an inch or so longer.

I think these are almost exactly the same as the X-Qpack2 though the qpack comes with a 500w power supply. I just picked one up for $50 AR, kinda wishing I had waited.

EDIT* Never mind, with shipping it comes to $46, only a few $ less than my qpack2 after rebate.

In 4 1 thx OP

So glad there is no rebate on these things, I have enough rebates pending that my wife would kill me if I added any more.

Wow, timing couldn't be more perfect. Over the past couple months, I've bought 4 CoolerMaster PSUs and 2 CM cases during their rebate heavy fire sale. Those 2 loose psus need a home.

I've had my eye on either this or an XQPack for a while and this is the lowest I've seen for either. Also shipping isn't per item - 1 shipped to Chicago is $12.20, 2 shipped is $14.46.

ps, I've seen the moddersinc review re: making most psus fit - I'm comfortable w/ a dremel.

I don't know which CM PSU you have, but these cases can fit many standard ATX PSUs without modification .

For bang-for-the-buck, that Earthwatts would be great. I actually had a somewhat similar (in terms of design) 350W Fortron PSU powering the previous system I built into my X-QPack.

If you can spare the $$$, then a modular PSU can be really handy from a cable management perspective. I think I saw a Hot Deal posted around here somewhere for some HX PSUs.

Either option would work well, imho.

Comparisons:
This is an elongated X-Qpack with an added fan at the front -- although on mine (2 yrs ago?) I didn't think that front fan COULD pull in much air because there's little perforation in the front panel to allow it. The X-Qpack has issues with long DVD drives interfering with long PSU's; the other two cases are enough longer that there are few problems, although it's handy in all these if the PSU cables exit on the left side (when viewed from case-front) so that they are along-side rather than directly behind the 5.25" rack.

This is the same size as the X-Qpack2, but the latter has a more robust handle (although it's still attached to the plastic front panel, I think) and much better front air-flow as its front panel has meshed areas.

The microfly cover is three separate pieces which easily fall out if they are not screwed in; the X-Q' are single piece (3-side) covers which you have to wiggle about to get properly seated.

All three appear to be made by the same foundry using identical aluminum stock and numerous identical pieces. They are good looking and decent cases. Its popular to discard any Apevia PSUs as they are not reliable [and I think one was the cause of a friend's problem last week].

All three cases require low CPU fans (~78mm clearance???) [like the Zalman horizontal flowers] and lack any clearance over the card slots -- so no tall GPU cards or ones w/ heat-pipes running over the top. None of these cases have especially quiet fans, and I think all the fans have PSU connectors, not M/B ones.

While I like the cases looks, by the time I've finished I've replaced so many parts [quieter fans, better PSU] and drilled so many additional air holes that I'm not a HUGE fan of the cases. But I still may buy this!

I used the Corsair HX 620 once.. it is a great PSU! The Antec deal is a very nice match for this mATX case deal... that is what I meant.

Definitely . Especially for anyone who hasn't built one of these before, ~$60 combined for a case+PSU is a pretty small "entry fee" to pay to experiment with a SFF build.

this is why I mentioned that I would not want this case for a box I would be in and out of all of very often.

That's an excellent comparison, and pretty much spot on.

I've known people with the original X-Qpack, and I've owned a couple of MicroFlys and now have an X-Qpack2. The X-Qpack2 has the best airflow while the MicroFly has the worst. I've known people to use the handles, but I personally wouldn't trust any of them. I removed the handle in my -2.

I wouldn't trust any of the Apevia power supplies with anything beyond a basic rig. The V-Series that comes with some of the MicroFlys (not this one though) is actually better than the Apevia units, but still can't handle higher end hardware. A friend of mine was unable to get his 400W V-Series to power an A64 x2 with an 8800GTS, though it worked fine before he upgraded video cards (Radeon 2600 Pro). I agree with the last few posters that the Antec EA380 is a great match for this case, as are all those recent Cooler Master PSU rebate deals.

8800GTX/Ultra cards will not fit without mods to the chassis due to the location of the power plugs.

No need for modular PSUs if you don't use a second optical drive - just run the unused cables straight into the empty bay and voila! Instant hidden cables. I should take pics of my setup to show that...

Besides the hight limitation of the CPU HSF, it also cannot extend past the edge of the motherboard or the tray won't be able to slide in.

That "handle" is an absolutely no-no if you're like me, and you're too lazy to put the rear panel thumbscrews for the motherboard tray back on, after poking around inside the case ;). If you have some nylon straps, you could probably rig together something like this instead.

Just to expand on Zap's comment - some safe bets for HSFs that require no case modding are the various horizontal Zalman flower coolers and the Tt Golden/Ruby/Blue Orb line. (Cheap Golden Orb available from Tt's online store). Some people just go ahead and remove all or part of the HDD support to allow larger HSFs to fit (did you do that Zap, or was that someone else in the "SFF, Notebooks, Pre-Built/Barebones PCs" subforum?).

Wasn't me. I seriously thought about it, but the heatsinks I was using would have hit the PSU or still hit the hard drives regardless of the support not being there.

EDIT: BTW thanks for that Tt refurb link. Mighty good pricing.
