I have to agree this game is awesome so far. I have only played for about 2 hours but it has certainly left an impression on me. Can't wait to spend some more time with it.

Looks like i'll be renting this on the 360 as the PC version is sure to have EA's usual consumer punishing DRM.

I don't think I have a single complaint with this game yet.

Story - good so far
Atmoshpere - awesome
sound - best I've heard
graphics - excellent
gameplay - awesomeness

I love shooting the monsters leg off then stomping their head. I'm wondering how many different enemies there are and if there are good boss fights. I haven't seen any yet.

Granted I only played for little over an hour but it is great so far.

i agree with this as well. have you gotten out of the ship so that you are in space?

the sound and atmosphere is incredible at those parts. i've only gotten to 1 part like that so far.

nh I haven''t seen that. Cool I didn't know you get to go outside the ship. Soon as my wife goes to bed I'm on it.

Watching a program on Sci-Fi channel on Dead Speace. Interesting how they got people from gaming sites and people from the entertainment industry talking about the game.

Damn, I really want this game but I'm forcing myself to wait as I've already bought and preordered too many other games.

Interesting thing happened to me... I unpacked my new 360, hooked it all up, go through the setup etc..., then I insert the Dead Space disk and right when the intro movie starts (the part with the static), my torch floor lamp starts to flicker and the bulb dies. It's a low energy florescent bub, so it doesn't go completely dark, but continues to flicker. Talk about a creepy game moment...

That being said, the game isn't scary IMO. It's creepy and the soundtrack adds a decent amount of tension, but these are creepy ghoulish monsters in outer space so it doesn't really translate to anything that would actually scare you. There are probably a whole bunch of nasty creatures in the ocean too, but I really don't worry about them unless I'm at the beach. If I was actually in Isaac's shoes I'd be pretty damn terrified though.

The game is fun so far though. Looks, plays, and feels a lot like a cross between Doom3 and Bioshock IMO... The RPG element adds something to the game, and the strategic dismemberment dynamic makes the enemies more fun to kill than in Doom 3. They adopted the whole darkness aspect of Doom3, but thankfully there is a light on the end of your weapon. You don't have to switch to the flashlight to use it, but you do have to aim to use it.

So far, I like it. Definitely makes you want to keep playing. I had to force myself to call it quits to go to bed so I wouldn't be too sleepy today.

Follow up to my previous post... Well, the game is actually more like Doom3 than I thought... It starts to get a little tiresome after a while. Once the novelty of strategic dismemberment wears off it's not very exciting anymore, everything looks the same (almost like Doom3 actually), and the death scenes when Isaac gets killed (which have gotten rave reviews) become annoying in difficult spots.

Actually, I've even noticed where Doom3 excelled that I had not really realized before this game came out: both DS and D3 use cheap fun house tactics to make you jump, but D3 always gave you a chance to kill the baddies on the first time around. Dead Space has parts that seem like they are designed to make you jump, get you killed, and then you're supposed to successfully kill the monster after you re-load because you know where he's going to be coming from. Maybe I'm just slow (I'm not much of an Xbox controller ninja), but the way it's playing out for me: recon, die, then complete successfully. This is particularly annoying at times because there is no quick save option.

Either way, after another few hours of the game I an not really compelled to play it anymore.

Picked this up for the 360 yesterday. I'm in the middle of chapter 4. It's been really great; the ambiance, graphics, no hud.

**Spoiler***

I've very close to the end but I would say my love affair with this title has waned considerably as I've moved through it.

Mainly, I would say the lack of character development is it's biggest flaw, despite my best efforts, I don't care at all about any of the people in the game.

I'm probably making some unfair comparisons to Bioshock, but in that game you get to know various characters through the audio logs and such. While this game has audio and data logs, you pretty much only get one for some random guy who is then never heard of again. You really don't even know what's really going on until very late in the game and even then it's murky and doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

The story isn't groundbreaking but it had some potential, I just don't feel any sort of connection to any of the events around me.

Finally picked this up today. I was playing it with my roommates watching and we were all very impressed with how scared we constantly were. Bravo EA, I'm impressed.

I got the game last week but I haven't had a chance to play until recently. It's lots of fun, and very scary. Think of it as basically Doom 3 + Resident Evil 4. It plays almost exactly the same as RE4, except it has better controls. It also has a lot of the same scares. The setting and story is a lot like Doom 3.

It's true that the story is pretty thin, but the same was the case with RE4 (and probably the other RE games, which I never played). It's all about the gameplay and the atmosphere. The audio is superb and great at creeping you out. The art is a lot like Doom 3, but that's a good thing IMO.

I liked it at the beginning, but it starting getting old and tiresome towards the middle. Get off tram, do 2-3 tasks, backtrack to tram, repeat. Great looking and sounding game, though. It's really polished.

The sparse, ambient soundtrack reminded me of Giacchino's "Lost" and Martinez's "Solaris" scores.

Just got this last night and can say the game is indeed very well done and looks amazing. It CAN be repetitive but you almost have to expect that nowadays, a lot of devs aren't that creative anymore and ideas seem to be in short supply. Creative and Artsy > The same old FPS with better graphics imo.

Huh...didn't know this. A Dead Space animated movie prequel came out on DVD today. Amazon link with trailer.

Experience the next phase in animated horror as the disturbing first chapters of the EA game Dead Space open up to reveal a cosmic terror that is truly out of this world. An ancient religious relic has been unearthed during a deep space mining mission to a remote planet. Some believe that the artifact provides irrefutable proof that God truly exists, but if there is a Heaven, there must also be a Hell. When the relic is taken aboard the ship, it unleashes a long-dormant alien race powerful enough to destroy all of mankind. One by one, the crew is being taken over by an alien force hell bent on devouring the entire human race. Can they be defeated before the ship returns to Earth, or has the ultimate Apocalypse finally been set into motion? ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

What's the first boss? Or I guess I should say, WHEN is the first boss as I don't think I've seen one yet and I'm through chapter 4.
