Don't worry, in 6 months we'll get VIAN's review, so this is just a teaser. :p

what gun's everyone using?

I bought the damn ripper in ch2 or something and have been plagued by practically no other ammo type dropping but the damn ripper ammo. Finally sold it by ch6 but now i kinda miss it :(

Why sell it? You can just store it in your inventory. That's what I did w/ the flamethrower as I think it's a POS weapon. I personally love the line gun.

Yeah, the flamethrower is probably the worst weapon with the ripper a close second. The first gun, when fully upgraded is one of the best. Its secondary firing mode makes it easy to take out the legs of the baddies.

yeah i like the plasma cutter the most by far. Right now my guns are plasma cutter, pulse rifle, line gun, and the contact beam. My favorite by far is the plasma cutter, pulse rifle works in a pinch but it's damn annoying how much ammo you burn through just to dismember a monster. Line gun is awesome, but I'm cheap and prefer to sell ammo for the credits. Contact beam I haven't had much chance to use. Anyone else having a ridiculously hard time maintaining plasma cutter ammo? I haven't touched any of the plasma cutter upgrades because I hardly ever have ammo for it.

What upgrade paths did you guys take? I went with maxed out RIG and stasis so far. Haven't touched any weapons upgrades since I hardly ever get to consistently use one type of weapon due to ammo shortage.

The flamethrower looked cool as hell before I bought the game but when I used it I was like "wtf is this crap". I like the plasma cutter and the line gun the most.

Plasma Cutter is the best weapon for me because it's "bullets" travel quickly compared to everything else. I've put about 8 power nodes in it so far & I'm on chapter 7.

Line Cutter is a power weapon. Awesome.

Ripper is probably the "best for the buck". 1 Normal shot with can take out 2 legs if you decent, even with ZERO upgrades. If you think this sucks, give it another try....

Pulse rifle. hmmmm. TBH I find this useless. I think the developers threw this in to say "hey, this looks like it would be useful, but this game is about dismembering your enemy, not shooting it with a lot of rounds"

Contact Beam. I have mixes feelings on this. In the store the ammo is overpriced. On the upgrade screen it says the damage this thing does is "120", yet when I hit a normal enemy in the body or face with this, it doesn't die. When I hit an enemy with the cutter about 4 - 6 times I kill it. ???? Fun to use, but I don't know.... it's secondary firing ability can be useful... especially for the little guys.

Flamethrower. Decent weapon if you know how to use it. The secondary fire should really be it's main IMO. the primary fire is only really useful to keep enemies @ bay or kill the little guys.

Force Gun. Seems to suck. haven't used it much.

yeah i totally agree with what you said klok, The ripper is especially powerful when you open a door and just stand about a yard behind it, seems to sort of bug the monsters so they don't enter but just wander aimlessly in front of the door. You can literally lay waste to them as they stand there helpless.

Also I'm playing on medium difficulty and notice a ton of locked (red) containers and lockers. Do these open on harder difficulties or something? I read somewhere they open at a later point in the level but I've back tracked and as far as I can remember, any container that was locked in the beginning stayed locked when I headed for the tram.

Yeah I'd be curious to know about this as well. I'm in chapter 3 now, but I've come across many lockers, and a couple of rooms in the past 2 chapters that I could not open.

The red containers are typically opened up when you back track through the rooms.... ive seen a few open up. I'm on Ch. 7 so I guess I'll go back through some time soon & double check.

BTW, the only to play this is on hard. It's just difficult enough to be challenging & still fun. Plus it raises the scare factor since ammo & health are harder to hold onto.

I too thought the pulse rifle was useless. Once you get a few power nodes into that baby and up the damage it really shines. Works great for killing all of those little things that roll around on the ground like little globs

I'm working my way through chapter 2, and haven't found it that "scary". Shrill noise, something pops up, and you kill it...over and over. C'mon...is that supposed to scare people?

Beat the game yesterday night. The game started to feel boring around chapter 10 for me, was still fun, but there was nothing new. Though I knew there are 12 chapters so I just ran through the last 2 as fast as I could :p Still, the atmosphere reminded me of System Shock 2 and Doom 3, which is a plus in my book. I can recommend it as a rental :) Not necessarily a buy.

As for ZP he was especially angry in this one. I could hear him spitting with the angrier words! Not to mention he was wrong a few times (The Witcher amd Star Wars: TFU for example). However he's usually spot on for most games :)

GOW 1 or DS? People that have played both, chime in! I was thinking about snagging GOW 1 tonight since it is down to $40.

I'm going to guess you don't have an HDTV or surround sound.

Ammo is pretty plentiful from the first 3 chapters, but by chapter 4ish, I started running into major ammo problems which is when the game started to really immerse me, I was pretty much hurting for ammo all the way until late ch8 where I stocked up big time on credits, ammo's and nodes, and now I'm pretty much a power house that can blow through the last 4 chapters.

*spoilers*
Just finished the last boss. Had 8 large health packs which made the fight pitifully easy on hard setting. Hell I only used 1 of the health packs throughout the fight*spoilers*
