hehe, used this mobo in the andara case also :D

also, if your 2200+ is showing up as a duron 1.8, it might not be recognizing the cpu w/ 256kb of cache, maybe just 64kb. if cpu-z/wcpuid sees it as 256kb, it shouldnt matter that much

Hi guys. I got a new video card from Shentech.com (ATI 9100), so won't be using the onboard video card.

However, on the bios, there are two settings related to the video memory. One is called Win memory, another one (the name I forgot). I want to reduce the memory allocated to the onboard video card (since I can't disable it), but want to have around 256 available for AGP texture. How should I do it?

Thanks.
John

PS. what is the best amount of RAM that should be allocated to AGP texture? My ATI 9100 has 128MB, and I am playing X2 Threat at 1024x768, AA-off.

For those of you using this in the Andara case, are you using the stock power supply that came with the case or an upgraded one?

Thanks.

I read the other posts and it's like with a 2600+ = 81 -50 =31

now when I try it, it is like 2600+ = 134 -50MIR = 84 (59 for the board, 75 for the processor)

Am I reading this right or do I need to make a call?

No you are reading it wrong.
The 2600 package for $81 was offered up to March 22nd. The $50 rebate was posted March 23rd. If a person bought on March 22nd they might get the $50 rebate. And they might not.
I bought on the 22nd and am waiting for my rebate but not betting my house on it.
And the m/b and processor are folding like the dickens.

/edit - were folding like the dickens till they got a 70 point Tinker.

Try it and see, or upgrade with a quality name brand. I've used an Enermax 330 and a Delta 350 on the Soyo. Both have the extra P4 style square 4-pin 12 volt plug this mobo requires to power the cpu. The Andara Delta 250 is a good little psu, but doesn't have that connector. It might be ok with an adapter, or it could run short of clean power (only 8A @12V, but on other boards using 5V@25A for vcore the Delta 250's have driven hot Palomino XP's with 400MHz overclocks 1.85VCore 512Mb and RAID arrays).

Is this deal really dead? I found this deal at mwave which seems to be the one this thread is about. It states the rebate is available until 05/07/04. The rebate form here shows available until 04/22/04 and postmarked by 05/22/04. I am not sure where the 05/07/04 is coming from. I have emailed mwave but have not gotten an answer yet.

I see Staples has PNY 512MB stick of PC2700 RAM for $130-$50IR-$20MIR=$60. Seems like a good deal to go with the above combo. Comments?

This mobo runs a mobile Barton 2400+ great. Drop the chip in, up the FSB to 166 and it defaults to 1.6V and a 13.5x multiplier for 2.25GHz.

Have two of these setups and they're purring along very nicely :D

when you select the processor it doesn't say whether its retail or OEM wtf ?

also, why not just run a regular Barton processor ? whats so good about the mobile chip ?

can you find a cheaper processor than the ones they list ? AMD 2600+ for $76

The mobile Barton have a lower stock voltage (1.45v) which implies that they have better quality cores than most of the desktop chips and are therefore more likely to overclock higher.

What could cause this? Do I need to plug in the aux power 4 prong molex as suggested by breweyez? I "only" have an Antec 300 watt power supply. The troubleshooting section reccommends at least a 350 watt PS. My newly installed front case fan turned on, the HDs spun up, I heard one beep, but when I saw the heatsink fan not spinning I turned off the PC right away. The heatsink fan is plugged in. The heatsink fan cord can't reach the other CHA_FAN area.
I don't have a graphics card so only using the onboard graphics. Could the power button cable, HDD LED, Reset cable cause a screwup/short so the fan wouldn't turn? I hate to RMA it, but I may have to. I've spent 6 hours taking apart my old PC installing this, reinstalling my old PC, going online for help, redoing the same old same old. I'm back at square one and am a little PO and depressed that this is not working so well. I'm not willing to take apart the heatsink, fan, cpu for fear of breaking something. I'm using brass risers for the mobo. Any suggestions? The soyo manual sucks. I'm not trying to OC or anythng. Just wanted a better PC then my 1GHz.
BTW I paid mwave to install/test this combo since I have never put in a CPU so I'm going to assume it arrived OK. But they weren't to helpful and their lines are tied up :(
Congrats to those of you who got this up and running, even if it makes me feel worse about myself for not being able to figure this out(lol). I feel like crap right now. I should have been happy with what I got. I'm ranting. I'm nuts. I need a bottle of prozac and some Jack Daniels. Maybe it is time for a dell.

Thanks :)
So, what H/S fan are you using? You did not hurt the CPU if that's what you're wondering...assuming that you applied the H/S grease or A/S5 or an equivalent to the contact area between the CPU & the H/S. The reason you did not hurt the CPU is that the H/S will absorb quite a bit of heat before the fan is necessary in order to cool it.

Some BIOSs regulate the performance of the H/S fan unit in order to control the noise - if this feature is activated in the BIOS. I have one unit where the CPU fan does not activate for several seconds (but the H/S is a big hummer and could absorb a blowtorch for about a minute before getting hot to the touch :)

Let us know... :D:D:D

got in on this one.... $8.11 shipping, but a good price for a board i can use for testing. Don't know if this was mentioned about the rebate...."rebate checks will be mailed 12-14 weeks after postmark date of program." Just a FYI, might be to long of a wait for some.

well ... either my grandmother is gonna be in for one hell of an upgrade (currently has a first gen celeron), or I'm gonna get myself a nice setup for BSD.
