Last night my computer started beeping as if the temporature alarm was going off while I was playing Need for Speed Underground.... then Windows blue screened. When I turn the computer on now its either not displaying to the monitor and beeping the temporature alarm signal or it will come up for about 10 seconds and lock up and then start beeping. Has anyone overheated a processor and had this issue before?
Edit: *Update* Well....I think its the motherboard.... I also checked to make sure it wasn't the power supply but another one didn't work either. It still has the siren going off even though the processor works fine on another mobo.
Soooo... I haven't looked in a while. What is a good motherboard that can replace mine? I need something that supports a 400mhz FSB (1.6ghz Northwood) processor and if possible would support an 800mhz FSB for me to upgrade the processor later to one with HT.
Edit: *Update 2*.....got the new motherboard and its still locking up!!! :*( Ive tried other parts out on another computer and they work just fine. Processor is fine, RAM is fine, .....no more "Overclocking failure" codes on the new mobo at least. But its still locking up in the BIOS sometimes. I noticed something wierd with the new mobo is that when I have the Hard Drive hooked up and go into the BIOS, some of the menus have chopped off characters on words. Ive checked for bent pins on the HD and mobo and changed the IDE cable out too. Ive got the hard drive here at my work now running tests on it and nothing weird is showing up. Its running fine here on this other computer. WTF?? Hep Hep!
Edit: *Update 3* .... I think I may have found the problem. I brought down another processor (Celeron Northwood) and used the 1.6 P4's Fan/Heatsink. (Unfortunately I don't have another Fan/Heatsink to try) When I booted it up it started giving out an alarm like it was with the motherboard. High pitch low pitch...over and over like a siren. So I install the P4 back in and it works fine, but then I try unplugging the fan and booted it again and the siren went off again. Plug the fan back in and its fine again. Has anyone had a CPU fan that has done this before??? After leaving the system on for a while it will start its locking up problem and it won't be fixed until I reseat the processor again. In the other motherboard it would lock up/blue screen after a while and then Siren if I would start it up too soon again. In it too I would unplug everything and plug it back in and it would work for a while and start doing the same thing again and would also have missing characters display in the BIOS. Would overheated CPU cause the missing characters too? The fan in the bios reports 2500 RPM for the retail intel fan.
