Nice find. I was contemplating going to BB for the x700 also. I've been looking for a good price on an AGP card for a while now since my ti4600 went crazy on me. I was planning on spending around $150 for a new one. Does anyone know of a better card around $150 or should I jump on this? I was looking at the deal for the Connect3D x800GTO 256 meg PCI Express and was hoping they had an agp version for that price they didn't. Let me know what you think.

Athlon XP 3400+
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
768MB Corsair PC2700
my friend just got a X800XL, runs great with Quake4 but FEAR was skipping and all that. yes he shelled out $199 for that thing at compusa

But I don't think it would work on the AGP version

Yes, that Evercool unit is what I'm planning to use on this 6600GT (as well as the $149AR Connect3D X800GTO I'm getting for my wife's computer - she gets the better one 😀 ). I have no idea if it would work or not on the AGP version. I brain farted... indeed I purchased the PCIe version for the same price:

PNY 6600GT PCIe $99 AR

SVC has a lower price on the Evercool and shipping will also be cheaper if you are buying multiple items. That's where I got mine from (for even less when they had it on sale). That Evercool works great on my 6800GT running at stock speeds.

Evercool passive universal video card heatsink $15.99 SVC.com

Thanks for the post. I don't think that I'm clear on this though. Can you use this Evercool unit with the AGP version of the 6600GT? If you're using the Evercool unit, are you using it passively or with the fans? This Evercool looks just like a cheaper version of the Zalman heatpipes that I used before I switched to the Arctic Cooling Silencers.

Does anyone know all our options for silent cooling on the AGP version of the 6600GT? I don't want to spend a fortune, but the $30 range isn't out of the question if it means that it's silent and keeps the card cool.

The AGP version is out of stock again if it was really ever back in stock in the first place.

i ordered the agp right before posting here. people must be checking it religously like myself.

edit: just noticed newegg took down the rebate..weird.

this is a GREAT deal! this is one of those rare cards that has a Dual-Link DVI port...so those of you who have APPLE 30 inch LCD can use it 🙂.....

Well, I owned this exact same card a month ago. It was idling at 60C, which was unacceptable. I ended up returning it, and with some prodding Newegg waived the restocking fee. Maybe I'm a prude, but the max i would like the card to idle at is probably mid-40C.

Could be I got a lemon, though.

Most of the newer GPUs run at least that high. My 6800GT runs at 60-70 or so, sometimes gets up to 75 after heavy play. The core slowdown temp is set at 120, so I guess there is plenty of room. One set of drivers a while ago was also reporting the temps even higher than it should have, but I think they fixed that.

So, yes, you panicked in vain.

I don't know. I'm not a video card guru by any means, but I tend to disagree. The Anandtech tests of this model had, what, about 10 different brands and I don't think any of the cards idled above 50 C. Especially interesting since the card clocks down for 2D. A couple friends have similar class Radeon cards and they never get above 60 C (or even 50 C) under load.

Now I believe my 6600GT actually didn't heat up much under load, which is good in a sense. But it also seems bad that it runs so hot 100% of the time, even when it really is only doing a small amount of work. I didn't trust it to last very long.

Maybe I'm off on my analysis, but as tempting as it is to order another PNY from Newegg, I'd feel a bit guilty if it ran hot and I had returned the previous card in vain. Newegg was better than most about accepting the return sans restocking fee.

Got my AGP card yesterday. I ordered it over Thanksgiving holiday so it didn't actually get setup to ship till Sat or Monday.

just got mine and put it in, nice deal, now time to fill out the rebate after checking the card with need for speed most wanted, big difference over the fx5200 (so that is what the cars look like) j/k really does look better than the 5200 though, alot better!

coolbits 2 for overclocking🙂

seems mine makes it up to 582core/1100memory🙂 thats just sweet😀 my case does have a side intake fan so that could be helping.
