PNY does not use any particular chips. They regularly use up to 8 different manufacturer's as memory chip suppliers. The Micron chips are not nearly as abundant as some of the others. I have looked at a lot of these 2100 sticks and never even seen one with Micron chips yet. Micron chips were used abundantly on their pc133 sticks.

Also, many of the 2100 packages are coming with 2700 in them. Some 2700 chips will have a 6 imprinted somewhere on the chip, pc2100 will read 7 or 7.5

Most of the stuff in the So. Cal. area seems to Spectek chips (kinda looks like the Superman logo). There are quite a few discussions saying that Spectek chips are Micron's reject chips, and you should stay away from them if you plan on overclocking your memory. If you can find them, the 2100 packages with the 2700 sticks inside, that have Micron, Infineon, or Samsung chips, seem to be the ones to choose........assuming you have a choice at your local store.

Great price after it's all said and done no matter what chips are on the stick.

You can just select "order by item #" middle left of page. add to your cart with the paper clips at the same time.

I remember doing this deal about a year ago @ OD.

Received my rebate check in about 6 weeks, no problems at all.

RAM works perfectly in my wife's Dell Dimension 4500.

A very hot deal indeed!

It's the luck of the draw as to whether you get/find 2700. There are differnt batches with different chips all over the US. If you do this deal and have OD deliver your order, then you get what you get. Although you could go to your local OD and exchange it for another PNY 2100 package that does have different chips on it.

I was at CompUSA the other day, they had about 30 packages of PNY 256 2100. All but 2 were actually pc2700 in the 2100 packaging. Unfortunately, they were all Spectek chips, and I've read too many negative comments (regarding overclocking) on those. The other 2 were actual 2100 chips made by Elixir, which I have also read are not good overclockers. Keep in mind, whatever chips the PNY sticks come with, should perform just fine at pc2100 speed.

if you're wondering where that "other site" is, chk out B$ (located in my sig).

i got in on this yesterday (in-store pickup). it was a spectek chipset that ends in 75A (7.5ns = pc2100). if u get a spectek chipset that ends in 60A (60ns = pc2700).

I bought this ram about a year ago. It was supposed to be $30 after rebate, but they denied my rebate... but that's not the point. I got ram with elixir chips. The stick won't do anything past 150 mhz, even on the loosest timings and the highest voltage. This does sound like a good deal, though.

Great deal for non-OCers. Came out to about $7.50 AR. On the other hand, my Corsair XMS 2700 mem for overclocking cost over $50 per 256MB stick.

I'm in! Even if it will only do PC2100 it is still a bargain for an upgrade for a friend or relative. I even used the 15 off 50 coupon that OD snail mailed me!
